Few Questions regarding the Monbukagakusho Scholarship

I just got the form and some questions came to my mind asking...

1. What are the qualifications and requirements, and how strict are they on this?

2. In the form, under section 7, what and how do I write under "Field of Study" and "Study Program in Japan"? Can show me a sample? Are we given the choice to choose what to do or are we suppose to suggest what to do?

3. What additional documents that I need to hand up?

4. After this, will there be a test or an interview?

5. Throughout the studies/research, are the courses/research conducted in English or Japanese? Must the thesis be written in Japanese?

6. What should I do to increase the chances of getting this scholarship?

7. Your advice, should I or should not I go for this scholarship?

For your first 3 questions, why cant you just check out the embassy's website? D information needed is listed there. You are given the choice to write what you wish to research on in Japan providing you get the scholarship.

After submission, candidates will be shortlisted for an english test, which if you manage to pass, you will be called up for an interview

English or japanese for your courses will depend on your uni and also your prospective lecturer. By d way, from which uni u graduated and wat course are u from?

really, I ma not sure. Check on there web site.

Field of study -> write in details what have you been study so far.
Study program -> write in details what do you want to study in Japan.

recommendations, and application form, as far as i remember

I had English test (since it is not my native language), Japanese (since I know a bit) AND interview. Interview is the most important part.

5. Throughout the studies/research, are the courses/research conducted in English or Japanese? Must the thesis be written in Japanese?

I believe that depends

6. What should I do to increase the chances of getting this scholarship?

what do you mean? what have you done so far?

7. Your advice, should I or should not I go for this scholarship?

if you want it, then yes. if not, no.

Hi to all in this lovely forum!
I am also planning to apply to this scholarship program and would I think I really need your advice. I am currently into economics, I see most of you aren't, and nevertheless how should I write my study program and what does it mean? Does it mean my detailed module names which I think I have to take as a research student or something else? Please, somebody help, I really want to go to Japan!

I don't have any particulars on the scholarship. I teach here; I'm not a student. Give the forum a couple of days to respond. It's a busy time, and for students who may have already received such a scholarship, I would suspect that they are just starting classes now and getting oriented. It's a VERY busy time of year school-wise right now.

I would think that Mombusho would have answers for you. This web site Site not found · DreamHost is for alumni of such a scholarship, and it says you should contact your Japanese embassy for details. Your profile says you are a resident of Kazakhstan; don't know if that means you are a citizen there or just visiting, and I don't know if there is a Japanese embassy near you.

Best I can do is refer you to another forum where questions about this scholarship have been asked, extending the OP to about 5 pages now. Give it a shot and bump that thread. It gets more traffic than here, I think.

I had a slightly different question, but then I got smart and looked at the application instructions. Okay, so my new question is this: If there's anyone who knows, when applying to a graduate school for a Master's course, is it possible to gain a position as a research student instead (if for instance the standards are less rigorous)? I'm applying for the MEXT scholarship, and I'm wondering if applying only as a regular student to grad schools would put me at a disadvantage.

Put more simply, I guess, what would happen if I get the MEXT scholarship but none of the graduate schools I apply to accept me? (Hrmm, maybe I should just ignore that possibility for my peace of mind... )

hi everyone!
thank you for all the usefull infos you did post here. I actually have the Monbusho test in 2 months.
I have a question I didn't find the answer anywhere on the web.
I asked from the Embassy of Japan in our Country about the sources for Humanities Undergraduate Qualifying Examination of "WORLD HISTORY". but they didn't know and they just said its somehow "International" and about everything , and Even they didn't know what Level is the "world history" Exam. Since the History has so many different branches and is such a vast subject , is there a Level or sources for "World History" ? I don't know what to read or which parts of history is more important !
I mean , should I read at the Level of Our Own High School's "History books" or what?
