Fighting with host family

well at least I`m getting a free buzz from all the cockroach and red ant tear gas cans.
Aren`t you suppose to leave the house when you pop one of those?

I know what its like to have a struggle in Japan... I fought with my boss most days, and rented an apartment off him.

My best advice is to learn as much Japanese as possible so you can talk to the host family, try to practice your Japanese on them as much as possible, try to enter the group and not let them reject you. From what it sounds like, they have communication problems with you and you with them.

Knowledge is power and in your case, learning Japanese as much as possible would give you 10 times more power to change your situation.

BTW you can cash travellers cheques at almost any department store.

ya maybe I should learn ( hey get off your *** and clean that toilet) that would be useful.

I try to have a conversation, my host brother is a ahou he can`t talk with his finger up his nose. When I try to talk to him he tells me (urusai! , terebi)

My host mother is a fat hoe, who only talks to me at dinner time when her mouth is full of rice. When she`s not eating she`s lying in the air conditioned part of the house where I`m not allowed. Then she comes on my side where the fridge is and tells me atsu na?

My host father leaves home early comes back late, goes to sleep.

Luc, that really really sucks. I can't beleive they even wanted to be hosts ><

The fact that you have places that you're not allowed is horrible. I hope that you get a new host ASAP.

Why in the name of God would those people want to host a student in the first place? If all they want to do is make his life miserable, what's the point?

I could try and teach you a few swear words in Spanish if you like. Then you can scream obscenities at them and they'll have no idea what you're saying.

Oh? well they have no clue there just living, even if I say I don`t like something it`s a big laugh.

I know how to swear in French, so I can always scream that out but thanks for the offer.

I can't believe this, Luc. It's making me mad just thinking about it. I can just imagine how your parents feel. I bet your mom feels like going over there and kicking some arse. I know I would.

I also agree with what dadako said. You need to arm yourself with knowledge of Japanese. Also, don't lose your cool. That will just make it worse. They'll just think you're crazy.

Have you heard anything from your agency(or whatever you call it)? Are they going to try to put you with another family soon? I really hope so.

Good God... Staying there must be a living hell... I would seriously go insane if I was in that situation.

This is probably the wrong thing to do as it will probably get you killed, but have you tried intimidating them by getting really pissed off and yelling at them in English and throwing in a few "Ora! Baka-yaro"'s in for added effect, while throwing chawans and zabutons and kicking the table? Maybe this will make them more obedient and actually treat you like a human being.

And if all else fails, terminate them with extreme prejudice.

punch yourself in the face then go tell the police they are abusing you

This is probably a REAL long shot but have you thought of going to the (insert your country here) embassy? Maybe someone there can hook you up with a better family or may be willing to take you in for a while. Or maybe they have some strings they can pull for you.

Can you back out of your stay early? I realize that's not the ideal alternative but going home might be better than being miserable the whole time.

Most large universities in the US have campus lawyers you can talk to. Do you have a resource like that?

If you're beginning to lose your mind, look me up and we can play some Starcraf to take your mind off the pain.

You have my sympathies. And it takes a lot of balls to put up with everything you have.

Ditto we can do some stompin as long as I can be Protoss!!

Has anyone else seen the episode of the simpsons where bart goes as an exchang student to france only to be abused and used as a slave by his host family? I must say this situation sounds very similar! Kinda scary the simpsons is that true to life. Hang in there man do you have friends at your host school who could take you? find out these people sound like nasty pieces of work. keep that cool of yours, dont lose it with them and then you should be fine

yosha! I`m moving to a temporary family, I`ll be a week max before I move but I`ll be in an other prefecture so I`ll have to take the shinkansen.

I think it`s a good deal right? How much will is a shinkansen ticket anyway about 30 000 en?

depends how far away it is.

well done btw! good for you. I hope this new host family is normal...

Alright, maybe some of you know from my whining on some forums about how I`m living in a bad host family.

I have told my exchange company about this and they are looking for a new host, which they have been looking for a month now.

From up to date everytime I see something thats disturbing or disgusting I tell myself (I`m changing host let it go). But now I`m at the point of speaking my mind with my host mother and brother. My host father has a temper; throwing rice boles, punching walls..etc. I fell if I tell my host brother or mother off my host father will pick a fight with me.

Can someone give me advice?
just leave them fighting *family quarrells* just gointo ur room n let them fight if it gets too serious get into it

Dang Luc, I wish we cuold swap places, because I'm sick of living with Americans, even if they are kind parents, I wanna live in Japan. Besides, my father also has an anger problem, so living with ur dad would be easy breezy.

As for advice that's actually going to happen, I'd recommend anger management, but make it so he actually goes.

well, I would reccomend just making sure that you can get help from someone quickly if things escalate. Then, just wait it out until you get transferred, and hope that that family works out it's problems.

and, cyber ape, you've ranted enough about your issues in other forums. Try to stay on-topic.

"Well I`m one to say that some japanese school girls are asking for it."
who wrote that? that's right

Damn, that sounds awful.

I'm going to Japan next year and live with a host family for 3 weeks. Reading this gives me doubt too

Yeah, don't go. It's a 50/50 chance you'll get a host family from hell. It's true!

Dude, just because one/a few people have had bad host families doesn't mean you should be scared of going yourself. :-) 🎈
