Do you have a favorite sandwich that you like to talk about? It can be very specific, of course.

Mine is the one called 'Grilled corned beef sandwich' that I can get at the coffee shop in town; they make their own corned beef, sauteed onions, good mustard, melted swiss cheese on homemade bread.
I can usually eat it even for breakfast. So good.

What's yours?
 
Tunafish makes the greatest sandwich spread !!

Sounds good, misa ! Gives me the nose itching for that salty twang of corned beef & strong, terese taste of swiss combined...and the unspoken aroma of freshly brewed strong coffee is truely inspiring !!!

My favorite sandwich has to be the tunafish sandwitches I used to get at Mr. Yoons, Seven Palms, just off campus *shivers*

With mild mustard spread on one side, tunsafish blended with fresh onions & whatever secret ingredients, a dash of alfalfa, some jalapeyno or pickled thick green pepper is heavenly *visulaizing and waking up the nose with simultanous drooling, slurping in the saliva, with a deep sigh of excitement, satifaction & gratitude for my favorite sandwich... hungry* :D

Personally, I like a little chicken over a roll. That is good. :-)
 
I don't really have a favorite sandwich per se. If I do have a sandwich it's from the resturant chain Subway. The two I eat the most there are the pizza sub and the ham. Both have white american cheese and are honey oat bread. Actually my favorite sandwich that I remember having was from Quiznos. It was the chicken club sandwich. It consisted of grilled chicken, bacon, lettuce, cheese, honey mustard sauce, all on a white sub roll. Now that I think about it, I'm starting to drool just thinking about that baked sub I just described. Yep that would have to be my most favorite sandwich of all time.

Good point, Thor, but you should also look at misa.j the person. Because she likes sandwiches, and also happens to be Japanese, (now don't be surprised, now) sandwiches can be considered Japanese by cultural extension ! What's wrong with that ? :-)
We see this happening all the time. Cherry blossoms should be universal but they somehow carry the Japanese tag bacuse the Japanese loved it more than anybody else; as a cutural group ! It's the love that makes the world go round, thor ! 🙂

Of course, sandwiches are universal. Just wanted to point out it was mainly for Japanese food & Recipes.

Misa, that corned beef sandwich sounds heavenly. Yummmmmm...

My favorite sandwich is probably the "French dip". My favorite variation is roast beef and cheddar on a croissant with au jus for dipping.

Ok, I'm hungry again.
 
I have two home-grown favorites (one of which I concocted here in Japan).

The first one is "Tuna on Rye" but with a twist. Take your average canned tuna (albacore is ideal but pricey), drain completely (only use those canned in water, NOT oil), mix with one tbsp./can of low-fat 1/4 calorie mayo (Miracle Whip preferrably), sauerkraut (drain the brine), crushed red peppers, some diced onions and celery (raw), a dash or two of Tabasco, a pinch of Italian herb salt, and some ground black pepper. Top it all off with a slice of pepperjack cheese plus a light dusting of parmesan cheese (the grated kind) and there you have it.

The second one which I like to make here in J-land every so often is pretty simple but tastes great (imho) and is filling. Take your average tofu burger that you can buy just about anywhere and grill it George Foreman-style with sauteed onions on the side. Add a slice of your favorite cheese (I like Swiss in this case) on top of the tofu burger just before you take it off the grill (enough to melt the edges of the cheese). Boil some spinach separately and drain, then add on top of the onions (which go on top of the cheese). Heat some typical pouch curry (you can find anywhere) and dabble enough on top of the burger to cover the spinach, onions, and cheese. Be careful not to add to much curry or it will become to sloppy to eat sandwich-style. Instead of using traditional bread or a bun, I much prefer using Nan bread (matches the curry nicely) pita-pocket-style. The Nan holds the contents of the sandwich quite nicely. I guess I would call this my "Tofu Spinach Onion Indo Curry Burger", lol. 🙂
 
I love peanut butter and jelly sandwhiches, they're like a comfort food for me. And I love grilled cheese sandwhiches with tomatos. What the hell, I like quite a few sandwhiches. But as of right now, I love meatball sandwhiches. :p
 
Just yesterday I was reflecting on how wonderful the salami and tomato combination is and woe and behold this thread crops up... :liplick:

Generally, I find sandwiches in Japan to be better than those available in the States. Konbini (convenient store) ones in particular. However, if we're talking about Japanese sandwiches, my vote goes to the mighty Katsu-sando (Katsu-sandwich).

For those unfamiliar with this culinary delight, it's basically pork filet tonkatsu (breaded and deep-fried pork cutlet) with a drizzle of sweet tonkatsu sauce and nestled in between two slices of soft, fluffy white bread. There are variances to this formula such as in the inclusion of chopped cabbage and/or mustard. My favorite vendor is Maisen. I will truly miss this when I return to the States.

I like what might be called a typical English sandwich, and that is cheese and marmite. I love marmite :lover:
 
White bread, no butter, Peanut butter, with dutch HAGELSLAG ( choco drops....)

The turkey mushrooms that are sold at a cajun place here in town. Brian used to work there (the owner used to live next door to him) so he knows how to make them. ^_^

*Bengiet (spelling? it's supposed to be pronoucned, "ben-yay") dough
*any deli turkey
*swiss cheese
*sliced white mushrooms
*special "cajun" mayo (they make their own; Brian and I use regular mayo with Zatarain's brand creole seasoning)
*poppy seeds

Flatten dough out, round, and spread mayo mix. Layer turkey, cheese, and mushrooms, and wrap up in the dough like a bun. Sprinkle with seeds. Leave dough in a warm, humid area at least one hour *covering with plastic wrap is normally enough* and then bake. It's done when it's slightly browned on top, but insides are still gooey. ^_^

You can also use standard frozen white bread dough, which is what we actually use more often than the bengiet dough.
 
I just thought of my favorite sandwich of all time. Fluffernutters. What's that you might ask? It's Fluff on piece of white bread with peanut butter on the other. Great sweet/salty taste. Best sandwich ever!!!😄

I googled marmite because I didn't know how it was eaten as a sandwich filling and found this.:D

LOL, cute pic...

Yeah, when I was growing up my pops used to like to mix equal portions of extra smooth Jiffy peanut butter and maple syrup in a bowl, whipping the two together into a creamy mix. Spreading that on two pieces of toast and folding it together to make a sandwich was such simple bliss... That pic reminds me of myself as a kid, heh.

It is yeast extract and fairly salty. You spread it on bread and is a case of you love it or hate it, which is the phrase currently used in the ad campaigne for it. I think Australians have something similar called vegimite
 
What a great idea for a thread!

The only problem is I'm going to have to leave to go eat now.

A foot long Italian beef Sandwich served on garlic bread with hot peppers and smothered in melted mozarella cheese.
