Does anyone use the 'Ignore Member' system?

I can't use it because I have to keep an eye on everyone. It seems like it would be a good way to keep a troll from driving you nuts. We try not to censor here and ban only for out right rule breaking. Maybe we need a "vote them off the island" button too?
Something like 20 or more members vote to ban the member , then they are gone. Some rooms on PalTalk use a system like that. Seems like we need something for annoying members who can't take the hint to leave on their own. Or, maybe the ignore system is enough?? What are your thoughts? Is any form of censorship bad ?

Ignore just hides their post behind a spoiler button, I'd rather if the posts just get skipped when I look at the thread.

I use the ignore user after about ten of the same infuriating posts by a member, and occasionally, after a while, I check their posts to see if they evolve.

No need to ban a person for being proudly ignorant though.

Trying to figure out how to use the ignore feature now .... I couldn't find anything before ... thought it was strange for a forum not to have this function.

For those who haven't noticed.......you go to the members profile and on the left side there is a list where you will see the add to ignore area you need to click on.

Just like [MENTION=1434]Uncle Frank[/MENTION], I cannot use the Ignore system here on JREF. I have tested it on other fora, but frankly, with a bit of "selective perception" it is quite easy to disregard posts of annoying members.

And a general statement on banning and reporting members:

Here on JREF, bans are actually a daily occurrence, but they usually concern blatant violations of our Rules, such as spam, racism, or other heinous activities. As far as the freedom of speech is concerned, we have always taken a liberal stance and only intervened if emotions boiled over or abusive language was used. We will continue to pursue an open-minded and tolerant policy in regard to users expressing their opinions.

Voting off members is an interesting idea, but I'm afraid that it could easily turn into a public lynching. Also, I couldn't help noticing that lately the T-word has been thrown around a lot here at the forum: I believe we should be careful with labeling posters expressing diverging points of view trolls. In my book - perhaps I'm wrong - trolling necessitates the deliberate intent of disrupting discussions and annoying other members (yes, Wikipedia's definition is much wider than that, but I do not necessarily agree with it).

I do however like the suggestion to give erratic or troublesome users a chance to evolve. They often do.

I agree with Thomas. I think it's good to have all points of view expressed, even those which seem abhorrent. To shut them down by calling troll limits expression. I like to keep in mind that it is abhorrent opinion which drives societal change, in general.

I wouldn't want to see voting, I think it would promote homogeneous views and I could see it turning into something vicious easily.

I never used or rather knew ignore button, i'm curious and i like to see what others think so i won't need ignore button
Memebers vote reminds me of Iranian Military Forums system, they have same system for two purposes, To delete posts and Ban memebers by votes, It didn't take them 2 days to ban me for 1 post LOL ...too much racism/haterd there.
I would say Ban belong to Admin team and report button is enough for members.
