Describe your town/street/house

I'm sure we all live in very different places, so describe your town, street and house so we can get an idea how you live!

I live in the suburbs of an English market town. My street is in a residential area, it is mainly terraced houses, a few semis, a video shop and an oatcake shop. My house is a 'two-up-two-down' terrace with a tiny back yard. It was built in 1875 - exactly 100 years before I was born. The style of my house is eclectic and cluttered. My favourite room is the back yard, and that is Iris' favourite room too!

OK, but I am usually only at home or work, and work is boring! I work in the city centre, in a building that used to be a pottery factory. It has a bottle kiln in the courtyard that houses a museum. The building now has offices for various charities. I run a small community learning centre for the local college. The city itself is quite large (about 265,000 population) but falling. It is a very run-down area and has even been voted the worst place to live in England or Wales.

At the moment I live with my parents in Kent.
We have a lovely big garden which is nice in summer.
Our house is a bungalow with an upstairs conversion, but mine is the only room upstairs that ever got finished.

There is one pub where I live, and a working man's club.
I go to the working man's club because I worked there when I was doing my degree,and I know enough people that I can go in there on my own.

It is nice where I live, but very boring. There aren't many young people I relate to there - lots of wannabe chavs.
Football, fighting, fruit machines, drinking, that's the status quo.
In the WM club I still get asked 'why' I drink red wine. I usually talk to the older guys.

I think it's probably a good place to settle down, but not much fun otherwise.

I think I should move back to London soon...

I wouldn't mind living in London for a couple of years, but I don't think I'd want to live there all the time. I'd like to get to enjoy the life for a while but... I know quite a few people who live/d there... and cos it's so big... always quite long journey to meet up with friends and suchlike. But if you have a good community of friends around near where you live, I imagine it would be cool

Well, I already said somewhere what city I live, it is no secret, I live in Leicester I can't describe my street, though... it's just... normal... houses and shops along the edges and a road-thingy down the middle...

I live in a largish town in North Warwickshire, home of George Eliot. I live on the outstirks of town in a nice area, in a detached house with a large garden at the front and a small one at the back, down a cul-de-sac, with my parents. If I walk out of my front door for about 300/400 metres, in a virtual straight line, I can walk into the nearest pub. About a mile away is a village within the town where there are 3 pubs, 2 clubs, 1 indian resturant/takeaway(very good), 1 indian takeaway, 1 cantonese resturant, 1 chinese takeaway and a pizza delivery firm.

I thought most buildings in Stoke and Newcastle were old pottery works?

Yeah, there are a few left, but a lot have closed down as well. the latest was Royal Doulton, where my husband and practically his entire family worked. Now they all work in call centres or warehouses. They are the new 'growth' industries round here.

Well, I guess I'll be the first person from the States to check in on this topic. I live in West Philadelphia (actually called West Market), a predominently African-American neighborhood on a small rowhouse street. For the curious, rowhouses are fifteen feet wide two or three story houses with basements, small front and backyards built around the turn of the 20th century and are the predominant style of housing within the city limits, north, south and west (east is New Jersey). You don't see detached houses until you go out into the suburbs. My neighborhood isn't exactly paradise as we have our fair share of crime and urban blight, but the street I live on is quiet and the neighbors friendly, most of whom have lived on the block for decades, so everybody knows everybody. It's not perfect, but good enough for me!

Well... the house in which I am currently living in is in an older part of Busan, its old, mouldy, filthy and cockroach ridden. There is no shower, no bath, no basin. There is a toilet, and there is an interesting machine where I can painstakingly (but better than doing it by hand) wash my clothes.
There is a 86 year old Grandmother who moans in her sleep, whilst kicking her legs or banging on the floor. She also likes to watch TV at high volume from 5am.
Our front door is Steel, and very noisy to open and close.
There is no garden, actually its more like a small apartment building. But old.
Walking out of the building, you have to walk down alleyways to get to the street which doesnt actually get driven on, because there is the traditional markets all on the streets. There are interesting shops, Pc rooms, lots of korean restaurants. Its maybe 3 minutes walk to the subway station. The area seems to be a hive of activity at anytime of day or night. Its not scary walking around late at night, even in the alleyways. Just watch where you're walking because there are lots of stray animals and rubbish.
I live about 10 minutes from the beach, and it doesnt take too long to get anywhere really. The city is the second biggest in Korea, but sometimes doesnt seem like it.
It is a coastal city built on mountains, and has a major international port. There are 2 subway lines, so it's easy to not get lost.
There are lots of trees on the mountains, but not on the streets. Most buildings are 5-6 levels high and house many shops and restaurants.
I guess I like the little area I live in, but I have lived in much nicer buildings.

suburbs of Chicago...i live in unincorporated Glen Ellyn, IL where we don't have the big fancy houses...but! we have big yards ^_^ my neighborhood is called The Woods...its like the best neighborhood around i think...we have some nice houses...and our streets dont have sidewalks or street lamps...so at night i can lay out on my long driveway and look at the stars...and you can see a lot of them even though we are The Woods my side of the neighborhood doesnt have as many trees so we can still see them...the otherside has more...since the Morten Arboretum(collects and study of trees and other plants from around the world) is right next to that side of The Woods

Where do I live? Hmm how should I explain this Godforsaken town? Hmmm, I'll guess I'll have to do my best. Okay I live in a town about 50 miles away from St. Louis, Missouri. The town itself has only about maybe 4,000 people in it. It's a very quiet (too quiet) little town. There's shops and fast food joints spread out near the main highway, but that's about it. The rest of the town is just nothing but houses. The street I live on is a very noisy one with just houses all around and a forest in front (unfortunately a really greedy and corrupt contrator has literally down down most of the trees across the street to build about 40 more houses. )

There is a railroad track less than 150 from my house, with trains passing by every 15 minutes (but you never notice). There are usually some moronic high school kids blasting rap down the street every 3 hours, and the police are always driving by due to domestic disputes, sexual offenders, or meth lab busts. So even though I live in a small town, it's a very noisy place because of all the crime, construction, trains, highway, and rap music. So basically I could live in the city without any complaints.
