The state spokesman of Iran declared, according to the order of President of Iran, Mr. Rouhani, for safety of people against Corona virus, all the new year holiday travels and going out from cities are prohibited from today!
He also said, the offices that their works are not necessary will be off until 15 Farvardin (the first spring month). The president proclaimed, because a group of citizens pay no attention to the crisis of the corona disease and travel to other cities that is risky intensely, they should wait for severer debarment and limitations!
All parks in Tehran city shut down and going to the parks is prohibited until the next announcement. it is told, in theses days of corona sickness, after shutting down the sport and recreational centers, some inattentive persons gather in the parks and celebrate!!
Based on the news from Europe that because of deficiency of facilities and nurses in Europe the old people could not benefit medical care enough.
A group of Iranian students of the "religious educational centers" declared, with help of the Iranian foreign ministry and also approval of the European countries, they are ready to be transported to Europe and help those old people (as the nurses).
The new medical aid of China delivered to the officials of Iran
By command of Russia president Mr. Putin, Russians will be in an emergency holiday for one week!
The hygiene ministry of United Stated called out its retired employees to go back to their jobs.

I wanted to revisit this since there were future projections in it. Osaka and Hyogo, which were projected to have 586 cases by the 27th, are still relatively low with only 299. So Osaka and Hyogo look like they are dodging the bullet so far. In the meantime, Tokyo shot past Hokkaido as the municipality with the most cases, and is (coincidentally) also at 299 cases. What to make of these numbers? I hope it means Osaka and Hyogo are flattening the curve, and avoiding a public health catastrophe. Tokyo, on the other hand, is starting to become a worry. Those who were out and about during the fine weather on the last 3-day weekend and who contracted covid19, are starting to show up in Tokyo's numbers; 41 new cases on Wednesday, then 47, then 40 yesterday. It still feels very low given what we are seeing in New York, but those are the numbers we have to work with. Already Tokyo has exceeded the capacity of hospital beds currently allocated for infectious patients, but there is still capacity in surrounding prefectures, and presumably Tokyo could create more capacity.
I was *glad* to see Koike request people to stay indoors, even if the requests lacks enforcement. I think it had the desired effect of shocking people, without jamming on the brakes. No doubt the nightly drone of bad news and rising cases is also very sobering to people. I will be surprised if the number of daily new cases stays this low, but my fingers are crossed for Japan.

Yes your posts are monitored and the press is censored by government types and news sites have to moderate as they are told. They never were going to stop at just controlling NHK you know. And those JT dummies think its just China and North Korea. But since they never dare to post outside government guidelines they think they are free.

No. I hope Japan has the sense to not do an actual lock down. Its like throwing the baby out with the bathwater. They are not stopping this virus and trying will make things worse in general.

At this very moment, there are panellists on the Sunday morning TV shows debating lockdown, which was a word scrupulously avoided by the Japanese media until a day or two ago, which means it's going to happen. I'm intensely relieved.

Same here. I was very surprised that PM Abe in his press conference yesterday focused mainly on the economy and barely mentioned a possible lockdown.

I'm going to be in the minority here, but I was immensely relieved that Abe did not announce an immediately forthcoming lockdown yesterday.
While acknowledging that my motives are somewhat selfish (and granting that, in retrospect, it could turn out to be the right decision), I am genuinely not looking forward to a world in which my freedom to conduct my daily life is severely restricted, where I'm forbidden from leaving home or seeing my friends, and where some of my best friends' bars, eateries, and what-have-you will be shuttered indefinitely (and/or, in a not-insignificant number of cases, put out of business entirely).
Perhaps this brave new world of no social contact, no non-necessary outings, no eating out, and being shuttered at home until God-knows-when is inevitable, but (again, acknowledging that this is just my own visceral human reaction) I'd like to see it put off for as long as humanly possible.

Dave Specter is on a panel discussing this now. He looks a lot older than he did 30 years ago.
But not bad for his age. It all depends on the numbers and trajectory. Hopefully they have a solid plan in place. And also, hopefully, they can avoid a lockdown to the extent we see elsewhere.

I've got friends who own bars too and really feel for them. My hope is that a lockdown (it took 2 months in Wuhan starting from a worse situation) combined with targeted support to businesses most affected, as well as strict screening and quarantining for anyone entering Japan, will get Japan to the relatively good situation that China is now in.

Loved the rest of your post, but I never signed such a contract and neither did any of us. All we have are a presumed list of norms, and they could all dry up very fast
I really do want to live in a small commune completely free of this big government, group think rubbish blocking my freedom at every turn. For me its not a matter of good becoming bad. Its a matter of outrageous becoming even worse.
I could not even move to some remote island in the Pacific and not have the U.S. or some other crud government come exert hegemony over me with even more flimsy excuses than corona fears.
I still feel its the old and infirm that need to isolate themselves. These shut downs are not worth the risk.

I believe the actual paper is paywalled.
However, a key point that can be learned from the abstract is that they assume the continuation of currently active social distancing measures. I find it doubtful that we will continue the current measures until the virus is fully controlled, and so I think there will be at least a long tail that is not reflected, and possibly a second bump, depending on when and how completely measures are retracted.
Interesting data though, and it should be reasonably accurate for the next month to month a half. Maybe accurate to the end if we stay locked down through the summer, but I can't imagine that happening.

I hate to see it, but since the cherry blossom viewing is pretty much over, what are people going to do with all the free time on Saturday and Sundays ?
When the weather starts warming up, its going to be hard living in the govt. apartments with 3 kids.
This virus is an (dangerously ) infectious disease, so it is possible for those foreigners catching it might be deported. (reason would be is that they no longer can support themselves ) Probably has to do with the immigration health laws and self supporting requirements to maintain residency here.
What do you folks think?
