It appears that @musicisgood's home town is more progressive than many other municipalities, even if some residents still oppose the concept. Let's see if they change their opinion in six months.

After receiving objections from residents, the city government here will postpone the start of an LGBT partnership system for at least six months to sell the public to the idea. Respondents to a city request for feedback overwhelmingly opposed the introduction, saying, "We are not ready for that." Ube officials initially aimed to introduce the system, which officially recognizes same-sex couples and partnerships among sexual minorities to make them eligible for benefits and services, by the end of fiscal 2020 on March 31. The city government in December 2020 solicited public comments about the introduction, as the system is expected to be introduced as a guideline, which does not require the city assembly's vote. Officials said they received a total of 217 letters and emails from residents. Of these, about 80 per cent were opposed, while 16 per cent supported it.

Well that's interesting. Most young people have gotten out of the city. Ube Kosan, the biggest employer seems to be more recognized these days with university graduates, so let's see if it takes 20 more years to update on what is really happening in Japan.

Hey this is a hick town.

Not a good way to get a sample of public opinion. People like myself and apparently most Japanese people who are in favour of or have no objections to officially recognising same-sex partnerships are unlikely to write in, but people who can't stand the idea are likely to.

I've always said to myself, its whatever makes a person happy and let it be at that. Its just the way it is in life. Thing is that happiness has no boundaries and thinking of it that way is best for society.
