Sorry, my poor English confuses you. "former Kanagawa resident" means dadako, as he wrote in first post of this thread.

I don't know about it. In other threads you show great knowledge/ability about Japanese language, so I think you have an experience of overseas education in Japan or like that. Your knowledge about Hanzi must help you a lot I suppose.

Heh, all of them, so far. Most people have only a vague idea, so I get to answer this question often: "How does the Japanese alphabet work?" Oh what fun that one is, every time.

i'm chinese gal n love jap guys,but reading these posts n since jap think poorly of ALL chinese,maybe i should be less obsessed with them.no point liking them when they hated you.

They don't ALL hate Chinese people from what I understand, if you like Japanese guys... well, go after one and if racism stands in the way, the guy sucks anyways. not all Japanese guys hate Chinese people.

i don't know how much of a neat freak japs are in their lives but calling chinese sloppy etc n criminals saddens me quite.i'm born a chinese(i can't choose) n i HATE the upbringing manners/style n some other things about chinese,but i ,for one,is a neat n tidy person(but my family members r not as much like me),n if i ever save enough money to go to japan,it would be because i like some jap things,not to go there to commit crimes!
anyway,all nationalities have areas that suck,include japanese ppl.

I think it would only be a problem living where organised chinese crime is a problem. Because residents might not give you the equal oportunities you deserve. But a visit to Tokyo for a few weeks its doubtfull that any predujice would be encountered.

The news thing does ring true. All we get on the news here is murders and car crashes but during my year in Japan I only saw 1 car accident news story, a guy who was knocked off his bicycle, besides that there was nothing. Does it just not happen or is it not commonly covered?

Foreigners get alot of flak in Japan, but if they make a big deal of every criminal act by a foreigner then it seems to be a big issue. Kinda sad...

jap is a racial slur. you are a racist yourself if you keep using it.

where exactly is this considered a racial slur?

in the UK its fine to say Jap, we use it for all sorts of monikers and japanese people use it too. theres a shop in Brighton run by a Japanese guy called "nasty nip", so I'm sure we don't take things like that so seriously.

I think that the US might be the only place where it is considered to be a racial slur. From what I have heard, it's perfectly fine in Australia as well. I think the reason has to do with the whole WWII thing, when Japanese-Americans were put into camps and seperated from society, along with the Italian-Americans and German-Americans. I'm guessing that it was a common abbreviation at that time, and it got its negative connotations because of the anti-Japanese sentiments of the time. But that's just me guessing.

If it's okay in the UK, then just use the word inside UK, not where there are people from other countries?

BTW, is it still fine in the UK to say "Darkie"?

Both are slangs used by Japanese younger generations.

デムパ-->デンパ-->電波-->radio waves
But in his usage, the word デムパ means: people who insist on their own implausible theories, or people who persist in their dogmas fanatically.

マジレス-->真面目(まじめ)なレスポンス-->serious response(s)

I think people remember bad things easier than good things. Just like in U.S, when people see Mexicans, some people generally will think that they are illegal immigrants or criminals. But in fact, whites, blacks and Asians commit crimes too, but all of them also contribute their works to our society. Besides, people generally dislike the people who are different from them; Whites dislike blacks because their skin color for example.
