This is the sentence I found:

Tegami o kaku ka denwa o kakeru ka dochiraka shite kudasai.

I don't really see any difference if the word dochiraka is removed. Can I just remove it? Thanks in advance!

Tegami wo kaku ka denwa wo kakeru ka shite kudasai

It doesn't make sense. "Dochiraka" is the key to telling the other person what to "do".
Do (one or the other) of these two choices: A or B.

Without it, the sentence would be like:
Do of these two choices: A or B.

The listener or reader might infer from the sentence that you want him or her to do one or the other, but you haven't said it clearly or coherently.

It sounds a bit awkward to me. Is there any typo there, for instance like this?

(Probably "dochira ka ni" is not what the speaker meant.) "Dochira ka" just emphasizes the meaning. Here's examples from a corpus.
