Buy Japanese movies in the us?

Hey all. I'm trying to buy a bunch of Japanese movies in the US. yesasia.com sells them but they're like $40 each. Anybody know any websites where I can get original (made for viewing in Japan) DVDs for around $20? If anbody knows of places in South East Michigan to get them that would be cool too. Not looking for VCDs; and I know that region 2 DVDs don't play in retail bought DVD players here in the US but i have a region free player.

Doubt it. They cost about $40 IN Japan, so I cannot see how an import would be cheaper. UNLESS you find some boot-legs from China.

Sometimes you may have luck on ebay, but it takes a lot of patience. I have found a few this way so far.

But you also have to be careful who you're buying from on ebay. Even if the picture looks like the original it could easily be a bootleg. I usually don't trust new DVDs from Japan on ebay if they're less than $20 and the seller is located in China or some other place where pirating is wide spread unless there is a very good explanation of why it's such a low cost. And never trust ones that are cheap but there are like 15 listings for it. I like getting the originals and not the bootlegs - so keep a wary eye.

Yep, I bought Casshern off of eBay for $20 (btw one of the best movies of all time). The Disks themselves look official and so does the case but it dident come with a booklet or page insert like I'm accustomed to seeing on the inside. Not a big deal, but then I saw the collectors edition on yesasia which looks very cool. Now I'm trying to get Crying out Love, Zatoichi (the newest one), Hanochi, and Warai no Daigaku (which i heard was good).

I can find some japanese/chinese films at Borders in the foreign film section. I'm trying to find Casshern around my town, as I do not like eBay at all.

I usually buy my stuff from DVD ASIAN . They are based in Cali I believe. Or you can try SENSATION .

Thanks for the links. Sensasian seems to have more VCDs though, not as many straight DVDs.

Ya, I definatly appreciate it. I dident know about either of those. The only other ones I know of are HKFlix.com (which has movies from outside of HK), and www.rakuten.co.jp/ which i think is a Japanese retail store (only in japanese) but they have movies also.

Go to Amazon.com, select DVD or VHS under search function and type in "Japanese Film" There you will find dozens of great Japanese movies for under $25. I have bought many there.

I always buy them from yesasia.com, pokerindustries.com, dvdasian.com and several other places....Regarding bootlegs, there are many sites which sell them, I could name some few, but as it is illegal, I'd rather not mention them here....

Or you could try Samurai movies, Pinky violence movie, Yakuza movies, Sonny Chiba, Takakura Ken etc. They have a lot of titles for sale and have good price and fast service. Good luck!

CD Japan ; Sells only Japanese releases, which they have a gigantic supply of titles on DVD and VHS. Unfortunately, given the current policies of Japanese distributors, most DVDs don't have English subtitles and are rather pricey. A big plus: the site's in English and is constantly updated and improved.

Stay away from Sazuma, they've had a few complaints about their service including myself! Another supplier in the US that I deal with quite often and is very realiable is X-PLOITED CINEMA though they are mostly European in titles, they do have a pretty good and cheap selection of Asian films as well!
