I won't hijack this thread, but I've found Irish behaviour to be far ruder/disturbing than what I'd observed in Japan.

And I've lived in Dublin for 3.5 years compared to 5 yrs in MA and nearly 20 yrs in Toronto.

Yes, BuSmo, Dublin (where I've spent almost all my time, as opposed to other Irish cities) is by far the most distressing place I've been. The rudeness combines the worst "big city" behaviour and rural ignorance. The heavy drinking culture (made worse as the economy improved enough for people to have a disposable income) further exacerbates what I see.

Zero-sen, not sure I understand your question.
I live in Dublin now; I moved here from North America at the end of the year 2000. Before that, I lived for nearly 5 years in Boston, and before that, my entire childhood was spent in Toronto.
I've never lived in Japan though both my parents are Japanese.

Yeah, L.A. sux. I don't want to bash your hometown, but what freaked me out the most about Belfast was bars with gates, barbed wire, and video cameras at the entrance, murals with hooded men holding automatic weapons, craters from bomb blasts in the streets, guard towers with super sensitive listening devices, etc. The people in the streets walked fast and didn't look at eachother, and the atmosphere just felt very tense and uncomfortable. I don't mean to offend any Belfastians, I'm sure Belfast has some good points (Therapy? for example, a band that totally rocks!) but it just wasn't what I was looking for in a vacation destination.
