Yeah, well my neighbors think the AZ Cardinals, will make it to the this superbowl. But I think that AZ, wouldnt make it to the any SB, in the next 5 years.
 
Well, Los Angeles won't be going to a superbowl, or any NFL game anytime soon.

Not to slight your neighbors, Martial, but they must be high on crack if they think the Cardinals will ever make to the Super Bowl. Hell, they'd have to make the playoffs first, and they haven't done that for at least ten years, maybe even longer! Whew! talk about fantasy!

 
Oh, I thought that whe nthey told me this, but I give them a shred of hope for their dream. I also know that Milwaukee Brewers and the Arizona D-Bakcs dont have a snowballs chance in Hades, in coming close tothe World Series. It would be like, having Dale Earnhardt come back to racing Nascar again. He's dead now, and its over for him. Yeah, it would be nice if he hadn't died, but it happened. may he rest in peace.
 
I know that this is probably a redundant question,

Do they have Nascar or a similar sport to it in Japan? I think they might have a motocross like sport there.

But Do They?

Or is this a American thing, restricted to the US.?

Redundant? Not at all! As far as I know, the only racing they have over in Japan is Formula 1 (open wheeled racers like you'd see at the Indy 500). I think that stock car racing is uniquely American.
 
Well, Then Maybe I should move to Japan, and try to start a Nascar-like competition there. I personally think that they at least consider adding it to the olympic games. I think they have martial arts there, dont they.

Oh, yeah! I can see it now: Sunday afternoon, one hundred thousand Japanese head out to the local track in their beefy pick-ups (complete with gun racks), campers and RV's, flying rising sun flags and getting drunk on sake before cheering on the good ol' boys as Dale Jr., Jeff Gordon, Matt Kenseth, Mark Martin, Tony Stewart, et al spend several hours making left turns and swapping paint. YEEEE-HAWWWWW!!! Plenty of good, clean family fun for all! Hell! Why not? NASCAR would probably make a killing over there!

Hey, I want to see, htem try to top the Great American Tractor Pulls, My uncle runs the tractor pull circuit out of Terre Haute Indiana. He gets tpo compete at different tracks in the Midwest.

Well now, I would pay to see a gun rack on a beefed-up pickup. The tear in my beer would be a classic. But know, would we have to card them for the sake sales. I think the Yakuza would be quite angry at that prospect. What would happen if a local favorite lost the race, or the circuit for that matter.

Why the jab at rap? You know, maybe if you listened to some better Hip Hop, and had an open mind, you wouldn't be so ignorant to Hip Hop. If all you are doing is watching the rappers on MTV, then you are getting a skewed view of Hip Hop. 50 Cent doesn't represent Hip Hop. If you don't mind me asking, what type of music do you currently listen to, and what did you listen to while you were growing up? Growing up in Philly, you didn't even get into any Run DMC, Sugar Hill Gang or any underground Hip Hop as it was just getting started? Shame.. I hope you atleast listen to some Jazz, if you flat out refuse to acknowledge Hip Hop.
 

Relax, KOT! I was only joking! Still, I've never been able to like or even understand the appeal of rap or hip hop. I don't hate it, mind you, it doesn't appeal to me. Yes, I know there's more to the genre than the legions of foul mouthed misogynists on MTV, it's just never been my cup of tea.

Growing up, I listened to lots and lots of Motown on the radio. Stevie Wonder, Temptations, Supremes, Jackson 5, so much good stuff back then! After I enlisted in the Navy in 1976 and was stationed onboard ships, I got hooked on pop and rock music from shipmates. As for what music I listen to these days, my bread and butter is pop, old school R & B and classic rock and roll from the 60's, 70's and 80's. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Queen, ABBA, Cheap Trick, Van Halen, Fleetwood Mac, Foreigner, Blondie, Billy Joel, Duran Duran, Bee Gees, Motown, J-Pop, that's what I enjoy most.

I don't refuse to acknowledge hip-hop since it's such a powerful force in the music industry, it simply doesn't move me. But as long as you enjoy it, hey, more power to you!

 
MoTown rules!!!

Jeff -- did you ever see the film, "Standing in the Shadows of MoTown -- The Funk Brothers"? It's a great piece, giving credit to Berry Gordy's secret weapon -- the incredibly talented musicians and song writers who were behind the scenes during that amazing period in American music.
 

Oh, but of course! An excellent piece of work that I enjoyed immensely! A great movie about a truly great period in American music!

 
@King: I was BSing you, when I posted the crack about utter destruction. Hey I admit modern dancing isnt my cup of tea. Although Earl Grey sounds good, this time of year. With Spring on the way.

@Flashjeff: I think Nascar, would be forever changed if it were made over in a Japanese way. I dont know what racetracks there would be, or what theyd have for winnings/earnings. Hey, If they had a Japanese style Nascar competition, woulkd they be playing a Japanese dubbed Lynrd Skynrd song.
@bob: Motown is good, I like all forms of music, but the only thing I never understood, was the fascination with elevator music. I especially like George Thorogood and the Destroyers, Lynrd Skynrd, Guns and Roses, some Bob Marley, Georgia Satelittes, and other Southern Rock. I admit I like some Kid Rock, now and then.

Hey to everyone, Do they listen to Southern Rock, in Japan or in the rest of the world for that matter. I cant imagine the people's reaction say in Tokyo, if they heard some Lynrd Skynrd. I think it might cause a cultural revolution. Though on the other hand, It might just be blown off. oh well.
 

I think I mentioned previously that Formula 1 (open wheel like at Indy) is king of the racing heap in Japan, and has been for a long time, so the good ol' boys would have a hard time making inroads there. I could be wrong (I often am), but I think NASCAR did have a race over in Japan either in 2004 or the year before. I'm sure there's an article about that somewhere.

 
It would be thrilling to see race in Japan. Someone told me, that they are a huge event, there.
