I'm living in Mexico atm, and there are several sushi restaurants, but I just am too afraid to try it here. Anyone else never eaten sushi?

If you get the good sushi it tastes pretty good. I prefer California Rolls to the traditional stuff but that's just me. It's not my favorite food, but it can still be darn tasty XD I reccommend at least trying it.

I've eaten sushi, but as far as the variety of Japanese food goes, you could never eat sushi once and still say you love Japanese food.

eaten it and love it(although the only kind I have had is Shrimp and Surimi Sushi)
want to try the Mango coconut sushi though

Authentic Japanese sushi is, based on the variety and type of responses I've heard to this question over the years, definitely an acquired taste. Even those who like it are partial or impartial to certain things about it, will only eat it at certain places, IMHO it is a true delicacy.

As someone above pointed out, you cannot eat it just once. Different places have different chefs of varying ability and ingredient freshness can also vary. Don't be afraid to try it, if its PROPERLY prepared it should be good.

I usually have sushi about once a week (generally it is my Saturday brunch). I go with salmon, tuna and/or yellowtail rolls.

It's becoming more and more popular here in Belgium. You can even find it
fresh in the supermarket. I had it once but I found it a bit bland even the fish
was not to my taste. I usually like salmon and other types of raw fish.
Maybe when you eat sushi at a restaurant it taste better. The rice was overtaking all the other flavours.

I like california rolls the best... sushi is really good though. first time you eat it it may taste bad but then again it could be the chef who prepared it

iie...you need to try sashimi...but only if you are near a big body of water. I personally only eat any fish product when I am near the source, as I don't like the whole freeze and ship idea for fish. any way try it out!

ohh and if you are ever in a nice restaurant steak in Japan, not sure if they do this elsewhere in the world, but i also have tried beef sashimi. totemo oishii yo

Oh supermarket sushi is the worst, it is always of the poorest quality and is never as fresh as it should be- for the real taste of proper sushi experience you should really go to a traditional japanese restaurant that serves sushi made by qualified chefs, such sushi is far more superior in taste, quality and appearance than any dingy piece of sushi in a plastic tray that you will come by in a supermarket.

Sounds like you have tried the M&S prepacked stuff. Not nice.

Lol yep, it was pretty bad but IMHO not as bad as the Tesco stuff- that sushi is so stale and tasteless, the vegetables are all limp and sunken and the fish is bland and are the artificial colours are not appealing, the rice is so dry and crumbly its really quite disgusting  .
The Waitrose sushi is the best supermarket sushi i have tasted as far as supermarket sushi goes, but its rather expensive and its still nothing in comparison to how real proper fresh sushi made by someone who knows what they are doing should be.

Because of the great decline in tuna stocks i don't really want to eat sushi with tuna in it anymore, however unfortunately almost all pre-made sushi comes with some tuna in it somewhere so i think from now on i am going to make my own sushi with nice freshly selected quality ingredients of my own 👍 . I have some sushi and japanese cook books and it does not look that complicated to make, you only only need a few tools and the ability to cook good rice for sushi to make really good sushi so i think i'm definitely going to give it a try 👍 .

I'm vegetarian so I guess I'll never try it, although I heard that sushi doesn't always have fish in it. Is there such a thing as vegetarian sushi?

Nigiri sushi /w tamago is a common item and one of my personal favorites if you are looking for a light and vegetarian-friendly sushi. Other toppings/fillings I have seen often include natto, cucumber, and a thinly sliced yellow tsukemono-type sushi (don't remember the name).

Ahhh, natto!! I always made such a mess eating natto roll, and yellow stuff, that would be "Takuan", pickled raddish with yellow food coloring in it.

This sushi called "inari " is another choice if you are vegetarian, it's sushi rice stuffed in a fried tofu skin, which is seasoned with soy sauce, sugar and sake. My friends absolutely love it.

aww how could you never have eaten sushi? it's like the best thing! try it sometime :)

I like my sushi with a variety of fillings, from salmon to tuna, and cucumber with rice. The more authentic sushi is a lot better than the sushi you might get from the local supermarket as the rice does tend to be a little on the hard side.
