Animation Careers

Hello everyone!
I'm an artist and I was planning on becoming an animator of some sort. My strong points are anime, but I do other things too. I'm really determined to become an animator [possibly in japan] but it just hit me today:
What are the hiring rates for animation artists in Japan?

If anyone knows I'd be super happy to know about it. Thanks a bunch!

scott frazier is an actual american guy who has done this(?)
maybe his articles on that site will help -- although it hasn't been updated for some reason, it was pretty dope while it lasted
another thing to think about is that a LOT of edit: the animation is edit: NOW being done in korea and china, so that might be more worth one's while to look into

Well, I am working as an animator in Tokyo, and I am from Portugal. First, you need to have a degree in animation. Also, you should know some japanese, or else, they will not hire you. And finally, you have to be VERY good.

I almost became an animator, I was accepted into a animation school two years before I had finished my high school degree. I decided against it after taking the school's summer course because its thankless work (in my mind). I couldn't bear drawing the same figures over and over. And also there is little creative input until you get into the higher ranks. Lead animators make the models you will draw, and the ""critical Frames", and you just have to finish the scene. Art for me was all about creativity, which an animator is severly constrained, since there are many other scenes by other animators that must blend in to yours.

Don't just limit yourself to Animation. A friend of mine is a comic book artist who works for marvel (he can do mangas) , and comparing that to animation, its far more interesting. I believe which speaks to me more. there is far more creativity involved in manga/comic book art (because you are the artist, by yourself, and other than the storyline which you can make yourself on an independent label) Also you can get more recognition in this market... but you will probably make less money.

BrunoPatatas, I once read about good writtings on animation that were the nth generation copy of the original, found in animation studios (one of them written by Miyazaki Hayao)... is it true? do you have a copy? hehe

I can imitate Elmo's voice (from Sesame Street) pretty well. I have a rubbery face too. I used to work as a teacher in a special school, and my students loved me like crazy.

Traditional Animation Career

Hi

I am Ram from India. By profession I am a Web Designer having 7 years of experience. I would like to be a traditional animator and have my career in animation. Can any body suggest / give me the information about Traditional animation careers.

I've done a little animation on my course.

If you would like to start out on smaller projects by yourself, i recommend learning the following programs :
Photoshop, Flash, AfterEffects (It might be spelt AfterFX i forgot).

And possibly 3dStudioMax, Maya, and Lightwave (But this is really advance and damn complicated stuff.)

I wanted to do something with manga, but I think at this point it's not realistic for me. I think I'm going to g2 college for hair dressing or interior decorating. Both are creative anyhow....

ahh I've been thinking about animation, but i have this fear i'm not good enough (in which i think i'm really not that good, but i'm able to become better, and get more education) i've been th inking if theres any art schools in L.A. California I can goto so i can get a degree in that. ahahah

To get into animation there are specific animation schools or schools that have an animation as a degree. A lot of the good ones are in California... it depends if you want to CG animation or traditional.because there are a lot of CG schools out there all over the place. I don't know because I haven't looked into it for about 7 years.
