last night myself and my girlfriend sat down to watch a film that (judging by the front cover...i know, i know...never do it!) looked like a gore-fest horror movie.
instead we sat enthralled (well, i can't speak for her but i was) in a un-nerving thriller that was clearly made on a low budget and it didn't have one drop of blood.
expensive special effects were replaced with subtle moments of uneasyness (if that is a word?) and the plot was interesting...the ending was believable and far from over the top.
those used to faster paced movies (which i myself am) may find it a little slow with no major action but i found it a refeshing change.
the film was called 'Seance' (translated as Kourei) and i would recommend it as an alternative to hack and slash cinema.
Yes, I have that in DVD myself, and I agree that it is a great movie. I especially thought that it was a disturbing thriller; the little girl and the suitcase.....
I especially liked the ending and in general it was a thriller which made me sit still on front of the TV not moving or exchanging one word with my boyfriend as it was sooo exciting.....
Arrrg! You've made me do it. Bought it via ebay. Read the review on midnighteye. Might even try to find the book. Did you know that there is a 1964 film based on the book as well?
Seance on a rainy afternoon...i think (i'm sure this is the title of the book but unsure of the film)!
i believe the book is by a western author whcih is something i find quite unusual...an eastern movie made from a western book.
i honestly recommend it!
if you purchased the same copy i did watch out for the odd missing subtitle, but you should be able to follow it...no major dialogue is missing.
Watched it this afternoon. I can see what you mean. It is an engaging film with a simple, but well thought out plot. Very subtle with the music and atmosphere. Came the same time as 'The Bird People in China' still got to watch that one. Cheers mate
