～まし / あそばせ / とてつもなくやかましかった

Hi,

1. 「あたくしの前で、あの女のことは口にしないでくださいまし！」

I think I may have asked a similar question before, but I cannot now locate the thread. Is this ～まし ending normal in standard Japanese, or is it characteristic of a certain dialect or special way of speaking?

2. 「勉強をどうぞお続けあそばせ！」

What is the meaning of あそばせ in this sentence? I guess it is from 遊ぶ, but I cannot figure out the purpose here.

3. それに、談話室はとてつもなくやかましかった。

What is とてつもなくやかましかった? I am not even sure where the word boundaries lie.

"お/ご + -masu stem of verb/stem of -suru verb + あそばす" is an honorific, and あそばせ is the imperative form of it. It has the same nuance as くださいまし.

Toritoribe, something that still puzzles me about (2) is whether there is any element of "causative" about this use of あそばす, and, if so, how a causative makes sense in the case of 勉強をどうぞお続けあそばせ. Who is being told to cause what to whom (or let whom do what)?

す is originally from an auxiliary verb for honorific, not causative. せ is the imperative form of it, as I wrote. (If it's causative, the imperative form should be せよ, せろ or せい.)
