深い森となだらかな草山にはさまれて、小さな町がありま す。

Having trouble translating the following sentence:

深い森となだらかな草山にはさまれて、小さな町があります。

"deep forest" and "there was a small town" is what I get from the sentence, but I am not sure if 草山 is a name of a place (kusayama perhaps)?

Also, not sure what the となだらかな and にはさまれて mean in the above sentence.

Any help is appreciated! Trying to read the book 魔女の宅急便.

草山 is, I think, just "grassy mountain" - from wikipedia: ある山の樹木を意図的に皆伐し、山全体を草のみで覆ったものを草山と呼ぶ。
