Hi,


1. 一番記憶に新しいのは、２０１１年の３月に起こった東日本題震災だね。

How does 一番記憶に新しいの work? Is it talking about the 一番新しいの among 記憶?


2. これはＮＨＫが前回族放送したビデオです。

Well, I guess 放送した is one unit, so what is 前回族?


3. 過去を旅することができることは、それだけでもドキドキすることがたくさんある。

I understand this is something about being able to travel in the past (time-travelling), and many exciting things happening, but I do not understand the purpose of それだけでも.


4. 美味しそうですね。僕も同じので。

I assume this means "That sounds delicious. I'll have the same." but I am not exactly sure about 僕も同じので. Is it another way of saying 僕も同じのだ, with 同じの meaning "the same one / same thing"?

の is a pronoun; thing, topic or like that.

There must be a typo. I think it's just 前回放送した.

"Even if anything special doesn't happen (in the travel)" or along the line.

1. Oops, yes, I missed a 大. I thought that の was a pronoun, but I'm still not confident that I understand the phrase as a whole. Does に mean "among"? Is it saying that among all the 記憶, this one is 一番新しい?

3. Sorry, I don't get this at all. Could you give me a translation of the whole sentence?

4. Another ので. Can you shed any light on this one? Is の a pronoun?

I've always understood 「記憶に新しい」 as an idiomatic set phrase so I've never given much thought to its grammatical constitution.

If pressed, I'd say that the に of the 記憶に新しい has a similar meaning to the "in" in "fresh in my memory". A similar usage is 記憶にない (it is not in my memory = I forgot).

>過去を旅することができることは、それだけでもドキドキすることがたくさんある

それだけでも here means "by itself", or "in and of itself". As already pointed out, the intended meaning in this context, roughly speaking, is that " time traveling is exciting in and of itself, even if anything special doesn't happen"

>>The ability to time travel has (involves) many things that, in and of itself, makes one's heart beat (gets one excited)"

>僕も同じので(お願いします)。

I am ignorant about the precise grammatical details, but it might help to think of it as a short-hand form of 僕も同じものでお願いします.

Hi PSS, thanks for your clear explanations. I just have one more question about the last one, if I may:

In 僕も同じので(お願いします) and 僕も同じものでお願いします, what is the purpose of で? Is it simply the particle that "goes with" お願いします? Probably I should know this but have forgotten.

The particle で in this case serves a function similar to "with" in English. Some examples are:

>>電話で連絡する (Contact with the phone) / ペンで書く (write with a pen)

僕も同じ(も)ので（お願いします） translates roughly to "I'll [go] with the same thing".

By the way, the reason I failed to understand (3) is that I thought 過去を旅することができること meant "the fact that time travel is possible" rather than "things that time travel makes happen". Is the former interpretation possible in another context?

The former one is exactly my, and of course PoliSciStudent-san's interpretation. "The ability to time travel" refers to 過去を旅することができること, and "things" in "many things that~" is for こと in ドキドキすることがたくさんある in his translation.

Oh, OK, yeah, it does seem to make sense now in my original interepratation, so I'm not really sure what I was concerned about... Just generally getting confused I expect ...
