Hi,

あなたが帰ってくるまでには、私は寝ています。

The translation given for this is "I'll be in bed by the time you get home." I completely misunderstood it, thinking it meant "I'll sleep/rest until you get back (and then I'll get up)". Is my interpretation impossible? How would you express my meaning? Can it be done with まで?

See this post for the difference between まで and までに. It also has an example for "to sleep until".

Aha, thank you. I think I ought to know that. Perhaps I did learn it once but forgot.
