1. 確かにそうらしいのう。
こんなところで奇遇じゃのう。

Is this のう as in the emphasis-adding particle? In the dictionary it is marked as Kansai dialect. Would the author be trying to create any particular effect by using it?


2. マグルの食べる甘いものじゃが、わしゃ、これが好きで な。

a) Presumably わしゃ = わたしは? Is the author trying to create any special effect by using this, or is it just a normal transcription of dialogue?

b) What is the difference in this sentence between じゃが and だが?

c) What is the difference in this sentence between 好きで and 好きだ?


3. レモン・キャンディーなど食べている場合ではないとばかりに、マクゴナガル 先生冷ややかに答えた。

I suppose とばかりに = といわんばかりに again? Does とばかりに always mean that?

1. Yes, and as far as I can tell it's very similar to な(あ).

2. a) Yes. It's like old person speak, I'd say. じゃ usually goes with that as well.
b) Flavor.
c) で has more of a feel of explanation to me. I'm curious to know if that's on the mark, though.

3. Yes, it's that again. I don't think it always means that, but I can't think of any counterexamples at the moment.

1. It's not necessarily Kansai dialect, it's a typical way of speech of old men. Same goes with わしゃ、じゃが、でな.

Thanks guys, that would make perfect sense as the speaker is indeed a very old man.

わしゃ is the contraction of わし（儂）は, not directly from わたしは. わし is also used mostly by old men.

わし【私／儂】の意味 - 国語辞書 - goo辞書

いう in ～といわんばかりに doesn't (always) mean "to say". It's similar to いう in ～と（でも）いうような. So, the answer is yes. (Note that ～とばかり, without に, is not so.)

the implied いう verb does actually fairly literally mean "say", doesn't it? She's answering coldly as if to say it is not the right situation to eat lemon candy?

In that sentence, yes, that's right. I mean it can be used as "as if to do".

もうすぐ春が来ると（いわん）ばかりに、つぼみが膨らみ始めた。

It means "as if to show" in the example above.
