なんて、つごう・・・

Hey, just a few things I want to double check:

1. A girl says about an exchange student "he seems lonely." The guy (who doesn't think much of him)" says "日本人なんていつもヘラヘラ笑ってるだけに見えるけあ ﾇな" , but I'm not sure how you'd get it across in English? "---- but he only ever seems to be laughing like an ***** to me." I know なんて has a derogatory meaning, so does it imply it's not a way he'd expect a Japanese person to act?

2. In this sentence: 彼には確認を何度も必要とするような頑固さがあった - "he had a stubbornness in him that needed to confirm things many times"? Or is it him that needs validating?

3. あの寒くて果てしない暗闇が続く支援から - the previous line says "I still remember what you told me, it stayed in my mind and [this line], you saved me." I would have thought it means "and because [your words] continued to help me in the darkness...", but 暗闇 is marked with が? Which marks the subject doing the verb?

4. A boy says "親の（つごう）で, [I have a little English blood in me.]" Can つごう be used here or have I misheard it?

1) Oh, so 日本人 isn't referring to the exchange student specifically?

2) I see. It's a need to confirm things in general, right?

3) That could be it! So から would mean 'from' rather than 'because'?
