1. おおっ、足立なかなかやるねえ。

They are talking about a girl that 足立 has met, so I suppose なかなかやる means something like "nice going!" because the girl is attractive? Is that right?


2. One person is recounting a story, and the other interjects with やるなぁ. What does that mean?


3. The speaker is recounting how he helped a stranded female motorist:

a) 「昼ごはんでも食べてください。」ってお金までくれよ うとするんだよ。

I believe this means "She [i.e. the person the speaker had helped] said 'Please have lunch or something', and even tried to give me money [i.e. money to buy a meal]." Is that right so far?

b) Then:

ま、でも、「ついてなかっただけですよ」って。ま、「 その気持ちだけいただきます」って、それでそこは別れ たんだけどね。

I understand the last part of this to mean "at that point we parted company".

Otherwise I am a bit lost. I have a vague guess that その気持ちだけいただきますmight mean, in a loose translation, "your thanks are enough". I have no idea what ついてなかっただけですよ means, or even who said it.


4. 車のお礼に明日のお昼ごはんでもおごらせてくれって言 ってくれてさ。

I suppose this means "As thanks for (helping her in the incident with) the car, she asked me to let her treat me to lunch the next day."

However, does the girl literally say 「おごらせてくれ」? Is this literally asking the narrator to do her the favour (くれ) of letting her treat him (おごらせ)?


5. ちょっと前まではね「気持ちだけで」とか言ってたんだ けど、結局なんかごちそうになることになっちゃってね 。

I believe this roughly means "At first I said "There's really no need', but eventually it was settled that she would treat me (to lunch)."

a) Again, I am not very sure about 気持ちだけで.

b) What does ちょっと前まで mean?

1. Yes, pretty much.

2. It's a general "do well" type thing. You can say it when someone is good at something or has done something well.

3. a) Yes.

b) ついている can mean to be lucky, so ついてなかっただけですよ means "I was just unlucky, that's all." You've got the rest right.

4. You are right about what it means. It's an indirect quote, though. She may have said おごらせてください. He's just recounting it in a more informal way, like he'd say it to a friend. -てくれ is a command form.

5. a) 気持ちだけで is like you had assumed -- "your thanks are enough" here.

b) "Until a little while ago..."

She was in trouble over a car acciedent or like that, right? He said that you were(= she was) just unlucky, I suppose.
