Hello,
1. しかし定形外ということで、全く保証が効かなかった。
Translation given: "However, the guarantee is not effective at all outside the fixed form."
a) I still have very little intuitive feel for という. What is its effect here? Is it highlighting 定形外 as an unusual or ad hoc term, a bit like we might use quotes in English? (To be honest, I'm not exactly sure what "outside the fixed form" is supposed to mean even in English.)
b) When I first read this I thought で had more of a sense of "because". So, it would be "The guarantee was not effective because of the fact that..." Is that a possible interpretation? (I'm assuming the tense "is not effective" is just an error in the translation.)
2. 終わったあとも足が軽い感じがしました。
Translation given: "I felt very light on my feet afterwards."
Presumably あと is a noun modified by 終わった? What is the function of も?
3. ねえ、うちでもちり紙交換に出してるの?
Translation given: "Do you give our waste paper to the paper collector?"
What is the function of でも here?
4. 石やきいも一の声
Translation given: "They hear the voice of a baked sweet potato peddler."
I really have no idea how this sentence works. I recognise the relevance of やきいも and 声 but little else.
