いて / 刻んじゃう

Hi,

1. 空港には数百台のタクシーがいて、皆客引きしていた。

Why is いて used with an inanimate subject?

2. 「人間を切り刻んじゃう、マグルの変人のこと？」

刻んじゃう = 刻んでしまう, yes?

1. It just happens, apparently. The reverse (ある for animate things) is also possible, see same link.

2. I don't see what else it could be really.

Yeah, 皆客引きしていた shows that the actual subject is taxi drivers. In fact, as nekojita-san wrote in the thread linked above, 隣の家の前にタクシーがいる has a nuance that the engine is running, the driver is in the taxi and waiting the passenger. Furthermore, 空港には数百台のタクシーがあって sounds like the airport possesses hundreds of taxis to me.
