In this type of sentence, the tense of the main sentence doesn't affect the tense of Adjective sentences and Noun sentences that modify
the word -とき.

So, the tense doesn't matter in these cases: so for example, you don't need past tense for the NOUN and ADJECTIVE sentence in front of とき (for example子どものとき), even when the main sentence is the past tense.
