Greetings,
My wife taught English in Sendai in the 90's. Apparently someone where she lived gave her this Japanese rice steam cooker and she now guards it like it is part of the family gem collection. It makes great rice, but we have no idea what the buttons mean - we just kind of guess, push this and that and is seems to make perfect rice every time!! (almost like it knows we have no idea what we're doing). Anyway, I'm attaching a pic of the control panel (in three sections). If there is anyone who could tell us what we're looking at it, I'm sure we would be surprised at what this thing can do that we didn't know about!

Hopefully you can see the pics clearly to read.

Thank you :)
Inca

Top one:
もどる (タイマー) すすむ (back and forward buttons for the timer)

Middle:
lights along the top are for the type of thing you're cooking:
白米 (white rice)
早炊き (quick cook),
炊込み (for making takikomi gohan)
おこわ (glutinous rice)
玄米 (brown rice)
おかゆ (rice porridge)

The big display in the centre is the timer, and the light in the oval to the right of the timer area is 保温 (warm mode rather than cook mode - if it's like ours it switches automatically over when it's done cooking to keep the rice warm)

The last three buttons are メニュー (menu ) 開始 (start) and 取消 (cancel)
