Hi, I dont really know much about Japanese culture but i was hoping maybe someone could help me identify what region in japan these photos come from, time period, or just any general information on where i could research more about my japanese ancestry. My great grandfather migrated to mexico from japan (during or before the war) and i dont know much about him except that his last names were Matsumura, Abe. Again, i dont know if different regions in japan have different last names or if you can help me at all with this information but thought i'd try. Thanks.

His last name (family name) could be "Matsumura" or "Abe", but not both.

I'm afraid neither the name(s) or the photos offer any clues to help determine a region of Japan.

He may have emigrated before the war or after the war, but almost certainly not during the war.

Sorry for not being more detailed, In Spanish speaking countries like mexico you are registered both with your fathers and mother's last names. Matsumura had to be from his mothers side and Abe from his fathers side since it was passed on to us. I realize its not a lot of information but thats all i know about him and that he might have been from kyoto or osaka. Thanks for your help!

Now I understand. Thank you.

The only thing I can suggest is to contact all your living relatives on that side of your family. In my experience, not everybody in a family has the same amount of knowledge (or interest) in family history. You may find older aunts and uncles who remember a few little things or who have some old letters, photos, etc that may provide clues.
