Time to start a new photo thread; as always, we invite our members to share their Japan-related photos taken in 2024. I know of some members who promised to upload pictures from last year: please use the old thread.


いつも通り, I start with osechi-ryori and nihonshu. This year, our family reunion was much more intimate due to seasonal illness and hospitalisation.

We had no osechi this year due to my sister-in-law's death late December. We had 年越しそば though.

Sorry, this is a cropped iPhone telephoto. There are swarms of feral parakeets living in southern Tokyo and Kanagawa. I found this noisy bunch this morning while walking the dog. According to Wikipedia, they also thrive in many other countries like Britain and are considered pests in some.

I don't know if they actually do beer pong here but it's a nice concept.

Did the local bamboo walk today. Saw one very large pig at the beginning, but no other people.

The road.

Also to the side, a wild mess. And on the bank alongside.

Bath was empty so I snuck my camera in. That's Tokyo Tower in the distance. Went for a Japanese-style breakfast today.

Sure why not? This was the outside bath so the steam was rising from the water.

Since we didn't have any guests/get-togethers over the holidays, and someone is visiting now (the other thread on sake cups), we cruised thru the market this morning and picked up some crabs. Two big zuwai-kani, three small kobako. Not in the pics was plate of buri sashimi. My wife got the smaller bowls from her mother, she says they're over a hundred years old. Tara eggs between the shoyu and kani.

@thomas Yes, there was some sake in the background.

Next, this seems odd --not only the size of the bird statue, but that its color would match the house. Maybe there was a little extra paint?
