Mostly a driving-and-see-things day. Had a great mango smoothie as part of lunch. We fly out tomorrow about noon, probably hang in the hotel onsen after breakfast, and check out about 10-10:30.

Also, one of the huge beaches on the west side of the island today (this is looking a little NW), literally nobody there but this wedding couple (to the right) and maybe four other people. The couple were just getting out of their car as we arrived, and they went on out onto the beach, by themselves, and he set up a tripod and I think they took some time-delay shots, or triggered the camera on the tripod via a phone. She was holding her dress up out of the sand until the crucial shot(s).
That's iwo-jima in the background (smoking a little). And I learned something! --it's right there, when I thought it was part of okinawa or farther out in the pacific. I need to go back and learn something about the war.

Actually the bicycle is okay for short distances but I like to put in like 50 km a day and there's some pretty there's two not mountains but the hills that I actually have to walk up on if I had my other bike I'd probably have to push push the bike up the hills anyway but the bike itself serves its purpose it's well built that's for sure it's not but don't get 15,000 yen bicycle without a front basket so after this thinking about it I actually got them the right bike for me for ishigi but if and when I do return which is very possibility since I'm working on it I'm going to bring back my cross bike with me.
I should be taking more pictures but I don't know maybe today I got some free time.
This is they put a vegetable in there I believe it's a sweet potato and another style they have is where they put tuna fish in it I got the tuna fish one by accident and I'm kind of glad I did because it was pretty tasty they deep fry it in a batter in the batter is really very fluffy and very tasty and I don't it's a season type of batter also.
It's very typical Island food for people riding the bus not riding the bus but the truck drivers and ventil lunches for construction workers it's a small little shop I didn't take a picture of it but it's one lady she's probably 90 years old running the place then they sell rice balls and and this only and some drinks no liquor though and the cost was 250 yen she let me try out a sample really a nice lady so she got a real hot one out of the battery for me and it was piping hot so delicious.
@thomas I asked my wife (the usual authority...!) but she didn't know. There are still lots of persimmons on trees, and depending on sun and stuff, some are more ripe while others still half green. I saw some other hoshigaki earlier today, but just a few or so at a time, that spot was striking for how nicely done they were.
I also stumbled across a kind of wood shop, or wood processing shed. The rails in the one picture are just that, rails to move stock/product in and out of the 'shop'. And to the right, more ropes... this time not connected to boats/fishing!

My wife said they're readily available at the supermarkets, so yes, kaki season has already started.

Yesterday was my first night back in Tokyo in four years. Everything was fine all afternoon, I entered the subway then get out 15 minutes later to thunder lightening and a crazy downpour of heavy rain and hail that actually accumulated. I should have made a snow man.

What time was that? I cycled home from Shibuya around 11p.m. and didn't notice anything.

Between 9 and 9:30 pm. I was down the road in Roppongi.
