Looking north along Suruga-chō (駿河町), now part of Nihonbashi and Muromachi, the print depicts one of Edo's busiest commercial streets. The large premises of the Mitsui family's Echigoya (越後屋) drapery, the predecessor of today's Mitsukoshi department store, line both sides of the avenue, while Mount Fuji rises prominently in the distance. The composition captures Edo's prosperity as Japan's commercial capital and reflects the city's close visual and cultural ties to the iconic mountain.
