The print depicts the busy waterways where the Nakagawa River entered Edo Bay, with ferries, cargo boats and fishermen navigating the marshy channels. Rather than celebrating a famous landmark, Hiroshige captures the everyday life of Edo's river transport network through a masterful arrangement of boats, water and light.
