From the Banks of the Tone River (利根川ばたより), from Pictures of One Hundred Views of Western Tokyo (東京西國百景之圖). Woodblock print by Kobayashi Kiyochika (小林清親, 1847–1915), published by Matsuki Heikichi on 7 October 1889. The moonlit riverside, waiting rickshaw and dramatic contrasts of light and shadow exemplify Kiyochika's atmospheric Meiji-period landscapes documenting a rapidly changing Japan.
