OK, so this blog isn't in Japanese yet, I've just had that phrase stuck in my head from Japanese class.

The weather turned nice this week (mid 70's woo!) so walking is that much more enjoyable now. I always walk everywhere, even in the cold, but the sunny weather makes it so much better. One thing about being on a college campus is that when the weather turns the bikinis and skimpy outfits come out. There's a hill right outside my apartment that is famous for girls sunbathing in bikinis. Not that I peek out the window or anything… But it's already spring and my second year in college is almost over. It's hard to believe I have a blog on here from my senior year in high school. So much has changed since then. I lived in the same house for 18 years but when we left my dad we moved to a new house. Well, that's about to change as well. About a month or two ago my mom's workplace succumbed to the economy and she was finally let go. We weren't really strapped for money (thank god) so she contemplated retirement, but after finding a job in Ohio she decided to work again. So, starting mid-April she is going to work in Ohio. It won't affect me much, though. For one she is not selling the house until September and by that time I will be in Japan. So really I won't be living in Ohio until a year from now. I suppose in high school it would have been a much bigger deal but now that I'm in college things are much more flexible.

I know I've probably already talked about it too much but it still hasn't hit me that I'm going to be gone for a year. I wonder how much my friends and family will change while I'm gone. I wonder how much I will change. By the time I come back I'll already be a senior and will have to contemplate getting a job or going to graduate school. I'll be 21 in September and I can't believe it. I know I'm young but still. 21 seems old to a 20 year old. I don't even feel 20! A lot of times I feel the pressure to grow up and be independent and do adult things. All those years of watching mommy and daddy go to the bank and stuff pays off. It's odd that adults are gradually treating me more and more like one of them. When I was a kid (I guess I still am) things were so much more carefree. Now there are social pressures you have to conform to and polite ways to talk to everyone you aren't acquainted with in business environments. Sometimes it feels like it is all just a façade of politeness with neither party willing to abandon the formalities. Forget your tie or heaven forbid you wear a t-shirt and you can kiss your reputation at an interview goodbye. Hell I wore pin-stripe pants and tie to my study abroad interview. I guess that was just me trying to impress, though. I guess what I'm trying to get at is that we all have our niches to fill. Kids are expected to be innocent, care-free and, well, kids while adults are supposed to be professional, polite and formal. Maybe that's why teens seem so rebellious; they are stuck in the middle. That's what I've been pondering lately and what's new in my life. Maybe someday I'll look back on this blog and laugh.

I think someday, at the age of 80something we'll all look back at our 21 year old selves, facepalm and die.
