Half-n-Half's Blog

As some people may know I studied abroad at Tohoku University during the Fall of 2010. I had to come home early because of the earthquake and never got to finish my program. However, since then I've applied and been accepted to a graduate school program at the same university and will be leaving...
So here I am in America, listening to a sappy piano song getting into a sappy mood about to write a sappy blog. It's been almost two months since the earthquake on March 11 off the coast of Sendai and a little less than that since my university forced me to come home to America. It's hard to...
Finals are almost over here. In fact I just got done cramming for one tomorrow, which I guess is technically today. But finals aren't what I really want to talk about or what is on my mind, at least it's not what urged me to write this blog. Earlier today I went out to dinner with two of my...
So it's been quite awhile! I've been in Japan now for a little over 3 months, so I don't think I can possibly update everything I've done. That's pretty much it. Oh and listening to lots of music, but I guess I usually do that.
I just had a really interesting realization, something I can thank studying Japanese and talking to my brother for. I told my brother "I'll probably come to Purdue on Monday." I thought to myself, why not "go to"? I am "going to", but since I was talking to my brother who is already at Purdue, I...

I just realized this, but today is my 3 year anniversary here at JREF! It's been really fun! Looking back on my old posts, I have grown a lot (I think), have met lots of interesting people and have had many interesting discussions. Here's to another year of wonderful times at JREF!
It’s odd, but the spring semester is already over. Last semester seems like forever ago. It’s a very surreal feeling, especially when I consider I only have two more years to go. When I think back to what I did first semester it seems like it was all in freshman year. The party my friends threw...
OK, so this blog isn't in Japanese yet, I've just had that phrase stuck in my head from Japanese class. The weather turned nice this week (mid 70’s woo!) so walking is that much more enjoyable now. I always walk everywhere, even in the cold, but the sunny weather makes it so much better. One...
What’s wrong with not wanting to go out and party with a bunch of strangers? I had a discussion recently with my best friend and his girlfriend about this topic. They were going to go to some 90’s dance party and asked if I wanted to go. I don’t like dancing in the first place, and doing so with...
I hate my Japanese class. I feel like I should clarify that statement. I hate my Japanese class but I love learning Japanese. Learning a foreign language is like a jigsaw puzzle that only gets easier the longer you do it. Sooner or later, all the pieces come together and you finally understand...
I tend not to post about political issues for several reasons, one of them being I am terribly versed in it. Even more so, I run away from Fox News as fast as I can. However, this particular bit of “news” brought up by Fox recently struck a nerve since it relates to me. If you haven’t seen it...
If you’ve been reading my blog, you know I have applied to study abroad in Japan for the 2010-2011 academic year and more recently a Spring Break excursion to South Korea. The deadline for the Japanese program was February 1st and the South Korea one February 8th. Unfortunately, I was denied to...
I got an email from the study abroad office a couple days ago. It was about a Spring Break CIEE culture program to South Korea. I have nothing planned for Spring Break, so I decided to go ahead and apply. It is aimed at students who have had little to no exposure to South Korean culture but are...
I noticed I had a blog in my drafts folder. Apparently, I never published the first blog I ever wrote two years ago. I guess that's why it only has six views (or maybe I'm just not popular). I guess I'll publish it now even if it is two years old. Reading it brings back some memories...
It’s kind of a late post for this, but we didn’t do much for Christmas. Actually, ever since my parents split up a couple summers ago we don’t celebrate many holidays at all anymore. The most we do is have a nice dinner amongst ourselves (my mom, my brother and I). My mom’s family is all in...
Have you ever been to a theme park and waited in line for a roller coaster? Not just any coaster, but the big, badass coasters; the ones that draw everyone to the park in the first place? I’ve done it plenty of times to know that there are four distinct stages to riding a coaster. The first and...
I stumbled (literally) across this personality assessment test called the “Myers-Briggs Type Indicator” and thought I’d give it a shot. It turns out I’m an INTJ personality type, which stands for “Introversion, iNtuition, Thinking, Judgement.” Usually I’m pretty resistant to these tests that try...
It’s been a little while since I last wrote to my blog but not much has been going on in my life recently. It has been the same old classes, homework, and college life. However, as most of you know, this last weekend was Halloween! Obviously, I had to do something interesting this...
