COVID-19 Coronavirus: global situation

Dear Zizka and Mark of Zorro please don't make yourselves tired by arguing ;)

These days, instead of policy we should find a shelter or wear an armor against the small enemy of life that even is not seen by eyes and if we want to meet this trivial killer and its fatal shape we have to use a telescope certainly.

Up to now, it has made man unable to find an alternative against its fatality. It is little but enough powerful to break down the defensive system of body of human and takes him down.

All people in the world are exposed to danger of death. Hospitals and medicines can't help anymore.

I heard, "Jacky Jone" has specified 400,000 Dollar for the medicine who can discover a vaccine against this virus (although it is not a notable reward and as Jacky is a rich man he could specify 4000,000)

However, the medicine researchers have to find out a way before this virus goes advance and infects humans more than ever.

Also, as the moderators deleted the pictures that I attached along with my article and believed the picture of the cooked dog, scorpion and snakes were not proper in the forum I chose these picture to make them happy, though those are not relevant to the topic

The Islamic leader of Iran, Ayatollah Khamenei, in the annually public "planting tree day" said:

It should not be any fault in observing hygienic orders (against Coronavirus)- We pray for health of the patients of all countries- Medicines are endeavoring.

He also said in another speech: Insha'allah (By will of God), we hope this ominous virus is eliminated as soon as possible.

The news in America says Iran has been hit very hard . Hope you stay healthy Mansoor.

Iran is not an exceptional area against this epidemic disease in compare with other regions. This virus doesn't know any border and boundary, especial in this era of the easy and fast international transportation and traveling . Even one infected person who travels from one country to another can be the carrier of the virus.

I think nowadays, no government or medical organization can control arrival this virus to an area absolutely, but it is possible to control its spreading by the correct and in time medical decisions and proceedings.

unfortunately, this unknown virus is very severe with a fast epidemic state and there is not a known vaccine or drug versus this virus, and that is why it is lethal for some patients with a weak defensive biological system.

So, in this inevitable situation, one of the alternatives is that people avoid going to the populous places (it is better to stay at home as much as possible) and also observe hygiene orders and rules. In the other hand, the patients with the disease should be isolated from the healthy persons in a disinfected place or they have to be treated in the isolated places of hospitals.

The Iranian organizations, especially the medical organizations are using all their efforts and facilities to make people safe against this disease and also isolate the infected patients and are treating them.

The condition of Iran is not worse than other engaged countries, but it was among the first countries that confront with the virus after China. About 72 countries of the world have infected with the virus and I think there is not a notable difference between the countries which situated in the emergency condition.

As I told before, this virus is still unknown and its fatality is not because of shortage of medical facilities directly but is due to this fact that an effective vaccine or medicine is not discovered against it yet.

Thanks for God. I'm healthy up to now. I try to follow the medical recommendation and warnings. I stay at home often and don't go out anymore.

My humanity task orders me to give thanks to Japan people and government
rose.gif

Just the moments before, I read a news that Japan sent a medical cargo aid with worth of 2.5 milliard yen ( 24 million $) to Iran for better controlling the epidemic corona disease. This grace made me happy and caused I send this thank to Japanese.

Mutually, the years ago, when the great tsunami happened in Japan, some rescuer Iranian organizations and even some volunteer Iranian citizens were transported to Japan immediately to help the Japanese people who were exposed to the storm.
As far as I remember, at the time, the Iranian helper groups even cooked some kind delicious Iranian foods for those Japanese citizens who encountered the disaster.

The friendship and interactive aids between nations is appreciated

Was really looking forward to watching Formula 1 again. But it can't be helped looking at the cancellations of other major sport events.

Question is for how long will this continue.

Here in Maine , as of early this week , there were only 3 unconfirmed cases and almost no worries or actions dealing with the virus. Then the President and the news talked about the dangers and ways to deal with it. In two days all the shelves were empty of toilet paper and hand sanitizer. Yesterday people started cleaning the shelves out of all types of canned foods. Friday night , the local grocery stores claimed on the nightly news that they all had done close to $400,000 business in just one day. Almost all meetings and events have been canceled and gatherings of over 250 people are forbidden. For so much to happen here in just 2 or 3 days is like nothing I have seen in my lifetime.

He also said in another speech: Insha'allah (By will of God), we hope this ominous virus is eliminated as soon as possible.

I'm going to hedge my bets. In case God has something else in mind, I will be socially distancing myself from Him.

I went to the hospital last Saturday.
(I receive periodical medical examination once a month.)
There are fewer patients in a waiting room.
The hospital was normal.
In my area, an infected person heard a given story, but does not hear the story that infection spread.
The neighboring supermarket is normal, too.

Also, just now I read in the news (in an Iranian forum that I write some articles on and off):

The president of China sent three separate letters to the governments of Iran, Italy and South Korea and made a promise to cooperate and aid these countries versus the severe disease.

The grace of China president is appreciated as well.

In this hard situation that the world is under strike of the unknown mortal virus wholly, such the cooperation can root up the disease sooner, before it infects the half of the population of world! If this virus stay at its position so, it will not be obvious how many people are infected.

This a global task for all countries to cooperate with each other to eliminate the virus as soon as possible.

Now in the crisis of the new and dangerous disease, the world is like a ship and the nations like its passengers. If a part of its body is damaged the danger will encircle all the passengers.

Hello Japanese; how are you? I hop you are well and healthy.

I read a news that Japan is the host of Olympic competitions this year. I recommend you to cancel the hosting (or postpone it at least), in the crisis of the epidemic disease Corona. At this time, gathering the mass of people in the stadiums can be a great risk, whether for Japanese citizens or guests.

I read in the news, the Japanese sport officials resist hardly against the international recommendation for shutting down the Olympic competitions in the crisis of the corona virus infection in the world, while it is told, the head of the Japan football federation has been infected with the virus!

such the desire of the Japan sport officials can expose many Japanese citizens to the danger of the infection, while this damn virus sends the numbers of the infected people into grave! You should be in alert and get serious my warning. Please advise the sport officials to give up their desire and persistence for holding the Olympic games, in this peak of the disease activation.

These days, gathering people in a place can bring this risk up that the disease is spread out more and more.

As far as I know, its still old people that are chiefly affected. That being the case, old people and those with serious medical issues should isolate themselves rather than cancel the Olympics and shut down countries and destroy economies. Doing things that is going to make it difficult, impossible or expensive to ensure those same old and sick people get fresh food is going to deny them the nutrition they will need to stay healthy you know? There are other things that can kill them besides corona.

People eating out of cans for two weeks....what hell do you think that is going to play? You cannot get fresh lettuce out of a can.

I agree that some limitation and restrictions trouble people in this period of time , whether in Japan or other lands but safety is the topmost thing against the infectious sickness that can be mortal. Eating not lettuce or fresh vegetable or cooked rice with fatty fish and radish is not important in a short time (maximum one or two months) but the important thing is that to remain healthy versus the disease.

I personally don't go out from my home except for buying a few breads, a little lamb, potato, tomato, rice, sausage and so on. It is about five months that I have not eaten fish at all, but it is not important. I care about my health against this ominous virus because this microscopic monster can hurt me. I stay at home and busy myself with computer, internet, watching movie and working with Auto Cad, Catia, illustrator, and other designing software. There is not another choice.

Although there is not any serious quarantine in Iran, but the Iranian medical organizations warn people to stay at home that is the safest place for citizens. I follow the organizations recommendation and warning and neither go out nor go to a trip.

As far as I know the most of the countries not only shut down the schools ad colleges, but also have closed the doors of all their stadiums and other public places. Meeting not people each other is the best way to keep away from the virus. Now, I hear the Japan sport officials persist on Olympic games that thousands of people gather in the stadiums. I respect your choice and interest. You can hold Olympic games or cancel it for a while, but a good decision is that to leave these games until the dangerous virus go away. Afterward Japan can be the host of the competitions without any worry. I myself like Olympic games and can watch the competitions from television later (after the virus was eliminated).

Once again, influenza has killed more people this cold/flu season and the danger is primarily to the old and already sick, just as it is and always has been with the flu. If we canceled the Olympics because of flu there never would have been an Olympics ever.

Even assuming Covid 19 has a death rate one or two percent higher than some typical flu is not sufficient reason for these drastic measures. The economic and social gamble to save the lives of those already close to death anyway, people who would have died long ago in the conditions of just 80 years ago, is foolish at best.

Isolating the old and sick makes sense. Isolating the young and healthy does not.

I'm not sure if this will be a controversial opinion, but I've honestly been a bit surprised and unnerved at how many countries and cities around the world have so quickly adopted this approach of basically shutting almost everything down and encouraging (or even legally requiring) people to quarantine/isolate themselves entirely.

I don't mean to downplay concerns about the Coronavirus or suggest that it's all just mass hysteria, but I can't help but feel like there should be more discussion and debate about the potential negative effects all these closings, cancellations, curfews and whatnot will have on the economy and people's livelihoods.

I mean, sure, it's no big deal for people who have stable jobs and incomes, those who can telecommute, etc. etc., but there are many people (especially in, but not limited to, the service industry, hospitality, etc.) who could potentially lose their jobs, businesses, livelihoods, etc. because of this, especially as it carries on for longer and longer. In the United States (my home country, though it hardly feels like home these days), losing your job can also mean losing healthcare, putting people at risk for other potential health issues, not just the virus. Some of these people might already be raising small children and struggling to make ends meet as is.

Of course, I don't have numbers (nobody does), but let's say the virus has the potential to kill as much as 3% of the U.S. population if left entirely unchecked. Now, let's say that an indefinite and almost universal shutdown of restaurants, entertainment facilities, fitness gyms, etc., etc. has the potential to plunge ten times that number into poverty or severe economic distress.

It's a hypothetical, of course, but is there not a point at which the latter figure gets large enough that it's at least worth having a debate as to whether the "prevent the spread of the virus by any and all means necessary" approach is truly for the best? (As opposed to, say, letting society function mostly as usual while encouraging all people to be careful and especially those who are most at risk for contracting life-threatening issues from the virus, i.e. the elderly and those with pre-existing illnesses, to take extra precautions.)

I don't want to make some sweeping statement that there's been an overreaction to this pandemic (I don't have the expertise to make that call), but I just can't help but feel that the potential negative repercussions of the extreme reaction currently being taken aren't being discussed nearly as much as they should be.

Also, I haven't even begun to address (in part because it's not something that really can be quantified) the effects on people's overall mental health, morale, and mood that this is having. You see some people reacting as if this is literally the coming of the zombie apocalypse, thinking "we'll all be dead in X years", etc. etc. Even for more reasonable types, it can't feel good not knowing when you'll be able to just go outside and enjoy yourself again. I'm glad I'm in Japan where I can still go out, have a drink with my friends, and take comfort in knowing that my favorite local sake bar isn't at risk of going out of business because they've been told to stay closed until further notice.

Again, I'm not saying "to hell with the elderly and sick, let them die so young and healthy people can have fun." Of course, that would be completely callous. I'm not suggesting that we should all just continue on blithely doing what we've always done and roll the dice.

But at the same time, when you adopt certain extreme measures (and yes, I consider establishing curfews, shuttering all sit-down restaurants and "non-essential" facilities for weeks or more quite extreme) you have to ask yourself at a certain point what you're sacrificing, and for what gain. No national or local government leader wants to be known as the one who let X number of people die from COVID-19 under their watch. The collateral suffering of people who end up sick, dead, or miserable because of the economic effects of these policies isn't quite so glaring, especially when the people in charge can just say, "Hey, I was just doing the same thing everyone else was doing."

Anyhow, sorry for the wall(s) of text. I don't usually get on my soapbox like this, but it's something that's been weighing on me throughout all this, and I felt like I had to get it out.

Respectfully, I don't approve your opinion about Corona. It has killed many patients across the world that the numbers of them were young. Despite all my respect to you I have to reject your imagination about this biologic dragon. It is swallowing the white corpuscles in the patients' blood, is breaking down the defensive system of their body and is deforming their lungs due to a hard infection, while there is neither an effective vaccine nor med against it. Yes a group of victims were old but a group were young as well.

All horns and rings in the world are sounding and are alerting us about the danger of this virus. All medical personnel and scientists are trying to find an alternative remedy against this disease but their efforts have been fruitless up to now.

I ask you to get serious this biologic being. It is more dangerous than what we think. It can be more hazardous than venom of a big black scorpion or king cobra snake ( king cobra is a long, large and horrible snake that lives in India).

However, the Japan sport officials can write a formal letter to the Olympic organization and request its chief to postpone the time of the games due to the disease season. I'm sure the heads of the organization will approve the requisition.

You are free to disagree. But are you saying that influenza does not kill young people??

It is swallowing the white corpuscles in the patients' blood, is breaking down the defensive system of their body and is deforming their lungs due to a hard infection, while there is neither an effective vaccine nor med against it.

Again, are you saying influenza is different??

I ask you to get serious this biologic being. It is more dangerous than what we think.

I think influenza is more dangerous than people have been thinking, but they were not panicking over it.

I have watched people succumb to hype and hysteria all my life and those two diseases never infected me. I feel like an alien but I sure am glad I am not weak to those two forces. They look like Hell.

"A 2012 meta-analysis found that flu vaccination was effective 67 percent of the time; "

"In 1999, the FDA approved oseltamivir phosphate for the treatment of influenza in adults[64] based on two double-blinded, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trials.[65] In June 2002, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) approved oseltamivir phosphate for prophylaxis and treatment of influenza. In 2003, a pooled analysis of ten randomised clinical trials concluded that oseltamivir reduced the risk of lower respiratory tract infections resulting in antibiotic use and hospital admissions in adults.[66] "

Neither is 100% effective, no, and Oseltamivir does have side effects so shouldn't be hadn't out lightly. That's not the same as having no effect.
