What's new

She won a civil case against her alleged rapist. But Japan's rape laws need an overhaul, campaigners say

Like it or not its still "he said, she said" and no amount of raw legislation or lazy judicial norms is ever going to resolve that, but simply weigh decisions for one gender against the other. I find Japan's current laws to be as balanced as any other in a situation where there simply is not going to be actual balance, fairness or justice without a MAJOR GLOBAL cultural shift toward sexual openness and tolerance of female sexuality. But I don't see that happening and its because females will reject it, citing all their little insecurities and emotions, and so this will all keep rolling like a runaway freight train into the future where innocence and guilt may as well be decided by a coin toss because all changes I have seen proposed recently just make men guilty for having a finger pointed at them.

Unless a rape kit was administered after the fact. I wouldn't be inclined to believe it in this political climate. Given that he was a high-profile broadcaster, she could have been doing it to gain an edge, or it was a power play on his part. We will never know, even if DNA was recovered. There's no legitimate way to confirm rape unless proof of a struggle, or bodily harm was discovered as well . Nowadays, the definition of rape has shifted to various including the : I regret giving my body to him, so it's rape today, as opposed to yesterday, or 1 year ago.

In this situation, I ask myself... Who has the most to gain from sleeping with whom?
Then the answer suddenly becomes all so clear.

But one thing you cannot factor in is level of sexual desperation, and that sometimes kicks in hard via alcohol. And that too is something people want to call rape, but only if it happens to a woman.

Other than that, its refreshing to see someone actually think straight about this topic rather than parrot tired mantras, promote a lop-sided agenda, or just go emotionally berzerk. Welcome to the forum and I look forward to read more from you!

Thank you for the compliment.
You know what, I've reading your posts for over a decade since I was in junior high.
You always know how to bring the entertainment to a thread. It warms my heart to have you say something like that. I agree with most of your points too. In fact, I don't think I have ever disagreed with anything you said, but there's still time. ;)
Even in real life, I see people go with the mainstream narrative, and it creeps me out that they don't give something a due thought process. They've become mindless squawking drones. As soon as somebody mentions something about a spicy topic... Colleagues, coworkers, students just repeat what the hear on the news, like it's an automatism.
I thought university education would absolutely make people think critically about what they hear, and what type of information they consume, what resource it came from... Especially on the news... Though, it seems that university is now priming youth to trust anything from any source, and believe all wahmen even if it's at the cost of the detriment of society, even if an innocent man's life and livelihood is at risk, it's okay!
You're better off trusting the tabloids.
I was fortunate to have studied under university professors that were bullshit watchdogs. The rest of the departments and other faculties, even at that time, were majorly female femenazis. I don't how I managed, but I only landed in one class with a man hating femenazi, and that was during my during my last year of university education/formation. By that time, I knew how to discern sources, and how personal bias could factor into the media she is making us consume. She hated straight White men, her husband divorced her for a younger woman, she had a meltdown, then after recovering, she married a black Jamaican, and she went on about smoking weed, listening to Bob Marley, and never trust a White man. I didn't know it at that time, but I was exposed to the typical template template for a radical feminist, and that is : a broken woman.

I also complained to the dean, and he said his hands were tied because she's his friend.

That's so funny! Its never my intent to be entertaining! I just want to paint an accurate picture!

Those two statements together fill me with both pride and envy. The pride is easy to understand I think. But the envy comes because if I read my own posts in Junior high, I doubt I would have understood half or agreed with a quarter of what I did understand!

If I/ we are right in general about things up to now, you may well go much further into the truth than I have. Steel yourself. What I know is ugly enough, but I see little beauty ahead on the path of truth. And I see even less favor from society for speaking it.

Wow! That is an insight I need to make note of!

At that time, I saw you as the beacon of truth, because everything you said resonated with me as being logical. Coming from a point of view of an observer. There was no sugar coating to what you would say, except for the jokes.
You're right, I don't know who's further down the rabbit hole right now, but I've got social links to a lot of people, and from what I know, it's definitely grim. I'm sure if we exchanged notes, there would be things we probably missed, and could fill in the blanks.
It's grim, but I'm still looking for the little sunshine no matter where the clouds break. Or the rabbit hole might cave in... And we're trapped with the mad hatter forever. Let's be honest here, I was kid, and kids try to find heroes in everybody.
