Hello, I'm new to this forum (this is my first post). I was curious if this yosegaki hinomaru looks to be legitimate from WW2 timeframe or a fake? Does the style of kanj writing reflect that of the WW2 time frame? Also, I would be grateful if someone could translate the names\slogans on the flag. I have tried to segment and assign numbers to the kanji to make it easier but I'm limited to the total amount of photos I can post so a couple of the isolated\cropped close-up photos were left out Thank You.

Flag Description: WWII signed silk Japanese Hinomaru flag. Flag measures 27 1/2" X 32", cloth corner tabs with strings. Flag exhibits minor staining and a few small holes. Flag does not luminesce under blacklight.

My elementary kanji translating has the name Chikao Uchida for #1

Regarding #2
Not sure what the first Kanji is ...but the next four, I think, are the popular wartime slogan: Buun Chokyu or "May your Military Fortune Be Long Lasting" ?
Is the first Kanji "Prayer ? or I Pray ?" so it would read: " I Pray that your Military Fortune Be Long Lasting"

Hmm, I suspect it's not authentic. Anyway, Your interpretation about #1 内田親雄君 and #2 祈武運長久 is correct. The other slogan is #14 御奮闘願 Hope your strenuousness. The rest are all signatures. #6~9 are two horizontal lines, and the upper kanji in #9 is the last one of #12, though.

.
Is the reason you feel it is not authentic due to this flag's particular style of kanji writing? or what is written on the flag?

Thanks for your translation assistance Toritoribe - Much Appreciated

Both.
#3 can't be a Japanese name. It might be possible as a Chinese name 劉石頭, though.
Correction to my initial reply. The horizontal line at the bottom would be another slogan 尽忠報?.

Toritoribe -Thanks again for your assistance and confirming what I suspected regarding this particular flag. I surmise this flag was a ww2 era silk Hinomaru that had kanji applied at a later time to make it look authentic. I see no reason for a Chinese name to be on this flag if it was legit, In addition, the style of kanji appears to be contrived and some of the slogans are not what one would expect. The kanji looks like one or two people created it due to the lack of variation and non-elegance in the calligraphy.
