Help with essay expressions please! Native speakers/advanced speakers much appreciated

Hey yo! I'm writing an essay which is throwing up some naaaasty curveballs re: grammar and vocab. I'll probably be a regular poster from now on…

I'm trying to write a sentence that means something as close as possible to "(Additionally/in addition to this purpose), the site (functions/can be interpreted as) a (stand-alone) short story collection". And I came across this sentence on Jdict: 私の沈黙を承諾の意味に読みとられては困る translated as "My silence is not to be read as consent". Except I can't understand precisely what 読みとられて means. So currently I have this: この目的に加えて、サイトは短編小説の意味に読める。Is this completely off track? I would really appreciate suggestions for expression here, along with grammatical explanation of why it works, because I keep drawing blanks! TIA

Have you learned passive verb conjugation yet? If not, you'll either need to learn it or rewrite your essay without the use of the passive voice.

I would say;
加えて、この/そのサイトは短編集としても読める / とも言える / にも読める。

Incidentally, 読みとられる is 迷惑の受身 "passive of adversity" in that sentence. See the following post.

Ah I see, yup I'm familiar with passive conjugation and adversative passive. So 読み取る is a word in and of itself? I guess I just got confused - although I know passive, I don't encounter it much, and learnt it two years ago, so such a form combined with unknown vocab threw me.
So yomu in potential is fine to convey the meaning of "can be interpreted as"? I'm used to using it very literally! I just want to make sure there's no confusion.

It's more likely that the combination "～として / と / に + 読める" provides that meaning.
