The problem is that letianchen engaged in the habit some English speakers have of misusing the very specific "this" as a substitute for the very nonspecific "a".
This results from sloppy writing and slangy misuse of English, not misreading on Toritoribe's part. His interpretation was correct in accordance with correct English usage....which wasn't used here.
