Ive found two expressions in my exercise book which are not explained in the text book:

子供の時 and 高校の時

After some search on the internet I found that they can be loosely translated as: 'when you were a child' and 'during highschool'

Can の時 be used to express any period of your life? For example: 学生の時 or 若いの時？

In fairness to your textbook, that doesn't need explaining.

若い時 not 若いの時

A more common way of expressing this is with 頃 (ころ).
