I think if they don't usually write the character then they forget it. English is the same. I forget how to spell words all the time, but when I read them I know what they are. If someone frequently writes (not typing, mind you) then they would know more kanji. Just my from my own personal experience.

Plus, if you recall later in the video, she was able to write 鮪. Most Japanese I know don't even know that, haha.

The character she performed couldn't write even 方 in the correct stroke order(Note that she wrote the kanji correctly. Only the stroke order is wrong. You obfuscated it intentionally or unintentionally.), nevertheless she became a Japanese teacher for non-native learners for some reason. Do you think no one realized the wrong stroke order in the drama staff or there was no significant reason why the scene was zoomed in? That's a rendering to show her character.

couldn't watch the video where I am, but let me get this straight: You watched a video with a Japanese girl that, from I gather, is from some kind of fictional show, where she either wrote a simple kanji wrong or forgot how to write it altogether, and then created a thread called "Japanese people can't write Chinese Characters"

Do you want to have some kind of meaningful discussion about how modern technology led to the decline of the written word and has caused Japanese youth to forget how to write even simple kanji... Or are you just being a trolling racist?

You really haven't come across the concept of a writer making a fictional character make mistakes in speech or writing to put across the idea that the character is stupid or uneducated? Often for humorous effect?

Really. This also applies to MANY characters throughout the two languages. "必" for example, has different stroke orders in Japan, China, Hong Kong, and even Taiwan.

Well, I took the trolls advice and decided to do some baidu-ing. The stroke order was changed in 1997 to the one it is today. I learned the character before the change. So FinancialWar you are correct on this, however, you really don't need to be so hostile towards everyone/everything. Things change.

it's an official government document stating the changes made to stroke order. Inside the document you will find the 方 character, along with 7,000 other characters that had their stroke orders changed. I don't know if you will be able to understand it though, as I don't know your level in Chinese. I can help you translate if you would like.
