Monbukagakusho Undergraduate 2015

Hi everyone, i'm Ahmed from Morocco and i'm also trying to apply for this year's scholarship through embassy recomendation and i would like your help in some matters.
1. I haven't taken any english proficiency so i decided to give up on the whole thing but when i emailed the embassy about it they said that there is no need for one, is it true?
2. I don't know what to do about the research program plan, because i don't have an exact plan, my field of study is management, so there is a lot of related fields to study (economics, business, accounting..), does anyone else have this problem?
3. About the research placement preference, there is a certain condition (7.ii) (university admissions), what's does it means, do i have to contact every university for admission or what?i have chosen for nagoya university, hokkaido university and yokohama national university.
Thanks in advance guys :D !

Hi Ahmed!
Are you applying for research program?
First of all I have to say that this topic is for undergraduate students. :)
For question 1, you don't need to submit certificate of English proficiency. But I heard that if you have one, you will have a higher chance of passing the document screening.
For question 2 and 3, I don't apply for graduate program, so I can't answer you.

Anyone can solve this problem?
|x^2-3x+2|=mx, find the range of m such the equation has 4 distinct real solutions. I get 2 different ranges, but I cannot find an answer yet.

I solve this problem as below.

|x^2 - 3x + 2| = mx
<=> x^2 - 3x + 2 = mx
or x^2 - 3x + 2 = -mx
<=> x^2 - (m+3)x + 2 = 0 (1)
or x^2 + (m-3)x + 2 = 0 (2)
The equation has 4 distinct real solutions when (1) has 2 distinct solutions and so does (2).
(1) has 2 solutions <=> Delta (1) > 0 <=> (m+3)^2 - 4.2 > 0 <=> m < -2sqr(2) - 3 or m > 2sqr(2) - 3
(2) has 2 solutions <=> Delta (2) > 0 <=> (m-3)^2 - 4.2 > 0 <=> m < 3 - 2sqr(2) or m > 3 + 2sqr(2)

Present them on number line, we get: m < -2sqr(2) - 3, 2sqr(2) - 3 < m < 3 - 2sqr(2), m > 3 + 2sqr(2)

Hello Mikyo,
i didn't find the topic that i wanted before but now i've found it, anyways thanks 4 the reply :D

That was the same way I solved it but the answer is 0<x<3-2sqr(2). Here goes the explanation:
|x^2-3x+2|=mx has 2 solutions (1)=-mx and (2)=mx, and if we try with x>0 and x<0, m has to have a value over 0. There we have our first restriction [m>0]. Then we solve the equations and establish that to have real solutions b^2-4ac>0, so we have those 4 ranges u wrote, but we have to intersect the ranges with m>0, then there only 2 ranges left: 0>x>3-2sqr(2) and x>3+2sqr(2). Finally we replace 3 (+/-) 2sqr(2) in the formula -(m-3) (+/-) sqr((m-3)^2-8)/2 and it gives two solutions x=-sqr(2) and x=+sqr(2). -sqr(2) there's wre I'm stuck. :(

Hey there ,

Can I put the first choice only or in the applicatio form or it has to be 3 choices?

I haven't understood yet :(
So is 0<x<3-2sqr(2) the correct answer?

Yes, you can choose 1 field of study. You can also write your second choice and third choice if you have 1 or 2 more choice.

Hello guys! So I'm an Indonesian applying for the undergraduate program this year. I have a few questions to ask.

So firstly, the deadline of submitting the documents is in 21 may. And I have filled the form and everything, but I just want to make sure that my essay is good enough before submitting it. So here's the essay: Untitled.
any kind of feedback is greatly appreciated!

Secondly, as you can see from the essay, I'm applying for the Japanese Language major. I'm currently studying math (I think I can ace the English test so I put all of my time and effort into math) but as I'm a 2013 graduate, and haven't done any kind of academic math in a year, I find studying to be really stressful and hard. So in Indonesia, social science math and natural science math are quite different from each other, and I wasn't taught trigonometry, circle, triangle etc in my 11th and 12th grade (I took social science). As a result, I'm having a really hard time with those untaught materials. I've also forgotten most of what I've been taught and I need to review everything, too. I've been studying since the beginning of the month but my progress is slow. Not to mention I don't really know what kind of questions will be in in the test as the questions from 2007-2013 test wildly varies, So I want to ask if it's enough to ace English only in the test, since I'm taking a language major. I'll still study my *** off though, but well I feel really pressured and frustrated by math to be honest. So many materials to catch up in such a short time...

And lastly, I've been seeing those who want to take the undergraduate program ask for the paper for past year's applicants. As far as I know, we're only required to take the test and interview and submit all of the necessary documents? If I may ask, what is this "paper" that everyone's been asking for?

Oh also, anyone got the exam paper for the 2011 test? I can't seem to find it anywhere on the net...

Thanks for taking your time to read this!

I'm also gratuated in 2013 and I thought that I forgot Math but when you practice you find yourself sill remember a little. I'm practice math on khanacademy website. It's very good and easy to follow Also it covers all the levels. Don't forget to check the SAT Math in test prep section. Good luck.

Hi guys,
I have pretty much completed the documents but i was still wondering about what should i write in the research program plan rubric. Thanks again

Hi ryokun,
first of all, i want to say that your essay is beyond description, i was captivated by it, you really expressed the reason that all of us who want to go to japan.
Secondly, i don't know what "paper" are you talking about, could you be more specific?

hi ahmed, i think this thread is for discussing the undergraduate scholarship and not the research student scholarship.

For the MEXT research student scholarship, you can look at:
FAQ: Monbukagakusho (MEXT) Research Student Scholarship and
Guide: Entering a Postgrad Program in a Japanese University

Forgive if i'm mistaken, but i still don't don't understand the us education system, in the embassy thread, it says that undergraduate students wishing to get Master's degree, PhD or MBA

I'm not sure why you mentioned "US education system" since MEXT scholarship is offered by Japan.

Anyway the MEXT Undergraduate Scholarship is for students who wish to do their undergraduate studies in Japan, i.e. current high school or junior college students.

The MEXT Research Student Scholarship is for graduates or undergraduates who are about to graduate. You will start of as a Research Student and then take entrance exams for Masters or PhD. For PhD, you need to already have a Master's degree.

Hi everybody! I'm 2015 MEXT's applicant from Thailand applying for Japanese language :).

I did all past papers posted on Government-sponsored (2007-2010)
I also did 2006's papers but there's no answer key.
However, is there anybody who has the papers of 2011-2014? I will be very grateful if you can send me those past papers!
My email: [email protected]

i am in a bad need of 2011-2012 exams if anyone have them it will be really helpful for me
this is my email: [email protected]

Hey Omar,

I think you can probably get those past year papers from your embassy, just head over to their department and request for these papers. I managed to get those from my Japan embassy. I hope you can find it there as well. ^^

can you screen the papers and send them ?

Hi Ahmed,

I hope i can as well, but unfortunately, i did not make a copy of it at that time. May i know when is your written examination? I would be going there again on next week after i have done with my written test.
