Can anyone tell me the average prices in a average town for a bread, the rent, and a beer in a bar, in Japan or the country you live in and also the minimum wage per month so we can compare.
In the Netherlands: bread in a supermarket: +-1.10 euro, rent +-440 euro for 3 rooms. beer:+-2.50 euro.Minimum wage is 1200 euro

3 room apartment per month=$800 to $1500 depending on location and condition
1 can of beer=around $1.40 for regular brand
minimum wage varies state to state but is around $7.25

I think we will need to convert the money figures to the same currency to compare things correctly??

In US dollars the dutch minimum wage is 1655 per month working 40 hours per week, bread 1.52, a beer in a bar 3.45, a 3 room house 606 but can be more. For a beer and rent these are not downtown Amsterdam prices they are much higher.

a bread = 150 yen
a beer = 500 yen,
a room = 60000 yen

Here in Saudi Arabia:
Bread: 0.26 US dollar
1 can of soda ( Pepsi, 7up, Cola ): 0.39 US dollars
Gas : two types (type 91) 0.11 (type 95) 0.15 us dollars per liter .
i live with my family in a rent house two floors (4 apartments) all house for 8,532 us dollars per year.

Living in Saudi Arabia is very cheap, but salary for foreigners is low.

as for food expense

you have to also count on food expense of per a month.
I have wife and 2 children, living in center of tokyo.
My monthly food expense is about $700.
We seldom go out for dinner.
When I was unmarried in tokyo, my monthly food expense was about $200.
I lived in very frugal way, though.

It's very hard to give 'average' costs. I live at the edge of Sapporo. If I moved downtown a few subway stops, my rent would go up 40%. If I moved a 30 minute walk away from downtown, it would go down as much.

Compared to what Avivet wrote, I have three rooms and a double garage for 60,000 per month. Japanese cities (except the biggest ones) have generally pretty low rents compared to Western countries because the prices have barely gone up in 20 years, while many Western city rents have consistently gone up.
