what color means money in Japanese culture?

Is there a particular color in Japanese culture that is most associated with money (Like the color green in USA)? I don't necessarily mean the color on banknotes, but a color that is seen as symbolic of money.

I am doing some illustrations meant for the Japanese society. In USA if I want to draw a simple cartoon/logo that means money, I can draw a rectangle, color it in green then pops a "$" sign in the rectangle and that means banknotes. What about in Japan? Do the people there associate the $ sign with money or do I have to replace it with the yen symbol?

As an extension, if anyone knows the relevant color for Euro €, please let me know. I understand that European cultures are much more diverse and there might not be a single color that represents money. but any pointer is highly appreciated. Thank you.

Interesting questions !

As you said in the US , green stuff is understood to mean money. Also when we hold up our hand and rub our thumb and pointer finger(finger next to thumb) together , it is understood to mean money by most people. Hope we get some answers.

Americans use green because they have only one color for all bank notes. Japan has more than one color, as do a lot of other countries. I don't think you're going to find any specific color for Japan unless you use a symbol of a coin or bar of gold, and then it might be a gold color.

At ATMs here, the color is connected to the bank itself, not to money.

I think it's always a good idea to do some research when trying to develop something which other societies (aside from your native society) will use. Good luck, OP.

EDIT: As I think about it, perhaps because the 100 yen coin is so ubiquitous you might want to go with a silver coin with a yen symbol.



Much like the old Walt Disney Scrooge McDuck or Archie comics used to use (if I'm not showing my age too much here).
