~といて

nice explanation here

といての意味? | Lang-8 is foreign language learning service

ある会話は次のように記述されました。
A:じゃ、料理頼むよ。
B:うん、任せといて。
意味がわかりますけど、"任せといて"の"といて"の形式はちょっとわかりにくいですよね。
教えていただけませんか?
ほら、ついでに、MSNなどでチャットしているとき、たとえば、僕は会話を終ってほしいとき、このように"では、ここで失礼します"を書きますいいですか?失礼かどうか分からないね。

~といて is the contraction of ~ておいて. Have you learned ~ておく form (to do in advance for a purpose)? That's the -te form of it as a simple command.

I have not learned the ~ておく form, could you please give me a description and some examples of the usage?

By itself, oku means "to put," but after a verb in the Te Form it means "will certainly do (that verb)," or "will go ahead and do (that verb)." There isn't a whole lot of difference between shite oku and plain old suru to express "will do," but shite oku, or any verb in the Te Form with oku, expresses the fact that someone will definitely do that something right away or in the very near future. It has a "will go ahead and do" kind of feeling to it.

Ron ni denwa shite oku. (I'll call Ron.)
Mado o akete oku. (I'll open the window.)
Kasa o katte okimasu. (I'm going to buy an umbrella.)
Kanojo ni ki o tsukeru you ni itte okimasu. (I'll tell her to be careful.)
Shukudai o shite okimashita. (I [went ahead and] did my homework.)

Got this off a website.

There is a significant difference between ~ておく and ~する in all the examples in the quotation. (Especially, the second one 窓を開けておく and 窓を開ける are completely different.) All those ~ておく means "the subject will do / did in advance for a purpose", as I wrote in my previous post. Further, ~ておく can be used for "to leave as it is now". Unlike "to do in advance", the doer can be someone other than the subject in this case.
e.g.
お昼前だったが、疲れているようだったので寝かせておいた(=眠ったままにしておいた)。
It was almost noon, but he/she seemed tired, so I left him/her asleep.
