I was wondering about the kanji 相, and it's uses in the Japanese language by itself and how it modifies other kanji. Also could this kanji have any implications philosophically?
I'm asking because it seems to be an 'arc kanji' in a visual novel I'm reading.

I think this kanji shows up so far mostly as a reference to 'appearance' in a mystical sense, like a character's 'true appearance,' because of other metaphorical kinds of words like 視界 and 眼 (almost always used on its own). Those two are straight forward, but 相 has been used to mean all of its various meanings, and I thought there could be, from a linguistic standpoint, some sort of connection?
As for the scientific terms, I'm completely lost.

I think you're overthinking things. 相手 is an incredibly common word which is unlikely to be present for any 'significant' reason. That it happens to use 相 is neither here nor there.
If you're still not sure how something like X相 is being used, supplying some context would help. Or what the topic of the story is - if it's sci-fi or fantasy then words may indeed be being used in a non-standard way but I still doubt there's any deep meaning behind the fact that some of the vocab used has 相 in it.

And picking out 相 as an 'arc kanji' is kind of like saying the word 'car' or 'money' is an arc word in English..well yeah the frequency at which 'car' or 'money' appears is significant, but that's because the frequency at which people talk about them is significant. same (to a lesser extent) with 相

High frequency of the use of 相 does not depend on the author's preference. It's just from the necessity of the words containing 相. (Or, I do suspect this would be the real fact, you just FEEL you saw it frequently.)
Every part of it (drawing, writing and artist name) screams "China" to me. .
Thanks for responding. Over the last couple of days I've begun to suspect this was not, in fact, Japanese.

Yeah, it just doesn't look like a panda to me--what with the facial hair, lips, and nose. Looks like a jolly, sleeping, possibly drunken, fisherman. The basket and hat look Japanese to me, too. Anyway, it was worth a shot. Thanks again!

I was wondering if anyone could translate this signature for me. I am not a student of Japanese so I have no way to figure it out. It is a signature on an old blade from a Japanese sword.
I have tried everything I can even trying to decipher each symbol but I don't know what I'm doing.
So if I am breaking any forum rules by posting this then I do apologize. I just thought it might be an interesting task for some Japanese speakers to decipher something that hasn't been read in probably 60 years.

Sorry, I thought there was some Hiragana on one of the images so I guessed Japanese. Thank you for letting me know it is Chinese.

Yeah, the ones in the last picture seem like hiragana さ[sa] and katakana カ[ka], but it doesn't make sense at all, anyaway.
