MEXT Scholarship 2012

didnt disagree means you re agree rite?
:p
there re so many reasons for a professor to reject an applicant...the simplest one is, he doesnt need student because his lab is full, no matter how good the applicant is.
well, im not sure tht my experience is applicable to all of us, since people are different one to another,
the only thing I emphasized when the professor interviewed me was...i know Japan, i have lived in Japan, I worked with Japanese professor before in a research project, and I love Japan, like daisuki! I...and im willing to work hard. When the professor ask me about my research plan, I said, well, I have a plan in my mind, but you will change it anyway, right? That s what I learnt from my previous professor, student' research should be correlated with professor research, and they usually have a big project and the professor will give part of it to me. Then, the professor laughed and said "...indeed, indeed".

See, im just lucky that I found a nice sensei,
anyway, good luck on sensei-hunting 🙂

You sure are lucky to have connection with that kind of professor :)
Have a good communication is an advantage.
Until now, I still doesn't know how to properly break the ice. especially if you talk with someone that you just met. have to improve my social skill ☝

thank you for your prayer. best of luck for you too :)

im currently a master student at KAUST,
I graduated from UGM in 2010 :)
I went to Japan for research for 1 year and instantly fell in love,
since then im yearning for Japan daily life.

Hello Akira!
Glad to find a Malaysian here who's gonna apply for MEXT 2012. Hope we get it!! :D
I was a bit lost in the field of study and detailed study programme in japan part in the application form. What should we write in it? How long must it be?

Hi shirureyu. Sorry for not being alert to your post previously. I hope it won't be too late.
I wrote about the background of my interested research area and what has been done by other researcher in field of study currently. Detailed study programme is what I plan to do, be concrete about the techniques you proposed to use. You just need to mention the name of techniques, don't have to be very detail into it. That was what i did.

i'm applying for the scholarship too..it's my first time applying...juz wanna ask, when we will get the notification for written exam?

i'm not really new to the forum but i was absent for a while,so,hello everybody!!!
applying to the 2012 scholarship has started here in my country and i've done my research proposal and the application form, even my medical paper...BUT i tried to contact 3 professors until now, but in vain!! i still have no reply from any of them which is really depressing because i sent e-mails for the three of them three times in 2 months...
so i was wondering if i was missing something they want to see so they consider my e-mails and reply...
does anyone have an idea or a way to convince them replying.. :-)

Fortunately for me, the professors tht ive contacted always reply my email.
plus, you should choose the right professor, the one who hasnt already had too many student in his/her lab.
See...what I do is, I promote myself in the first email, have you?
well...this is my introduction email template :)

Dear blank-blank先生

はじめまして、
My name is blank-blank from blank-blank.
Recently I am a first semester master student in blank-blank. It is a coursework degree that require one year only, so I will graduate in summer 2011.
I got my undergraduate degree from Faculty of blank-blank, blank-blank University, blank-blank.
I have spent one year (2008-2009) in Japan as an exchange student in blank-blank University, blank-blank Prefecture. During that program, I also got an opportunity to work under supervision of DR.blank-blank. I was working on blank-blank.

As I really enjoyed the experience of living in Japan as well as the academic atmosphere, I decided to try to go back there. Then, I found information about blank-blank scholarship. I will apply to the program with my undergraduate degree instead of master degree so that there will be no paperwork problem because I have already get the undergraduate degree certificate.

As this is my first email, I attached my CV, undergraduate transcript ("flashy GPA"), ibtTOEFL (blank-blank "the score") scan for your consideration to take me as your student if I get accepted in the program.

I am waiting for your response.
よろしくお願いします。

Regards,

Undergrad 2012

I am a Caribbean national living in another Caribbean territory and I am not sure what mission office my application is to be submitted to.
Any ideas on if the missions work together and if I can apply through anyone of them ??

Hi all
I am interested in applying for the 2013 research scholarship (I only graduate next year). I've a few questions and I'll be very grateful if anyone can help me.

1) Must you graduate with honours to be a research student in Japan? In my uni, we need to enrol in an honours course in order to graduate with honours. Would graduation from your undergraduate course be sufficient to satisfy the requirements?

2) Must we provide extracts of our graduation thesis or published papers. Is it okay to just provide extracts of assignment essays that we submitted during the course of our undergraduate studies?

3) Anybody whose field of study is philosophy?

Thanks!

as much as I know, yes, you should provide the title and the abstract of your undergrad.thesis or publications.
It cant be assignment...if it is allowed, i can easily put up more than one, hahah.

if you dont have the thesis, since it is for 2013, you better start to publish something in scientific journal, it will help you a lot.

I read the comments on this page. It is good that you guys started to look for scholarships.
The first thing I think that is needed is to look at yourself.
-What further study and career do you want. What are your skills? Every year lots of applicants, who do not possess enough basic English skills, apply for the scholarship. Every year lots of scholarships who get the scholarship realize that they find themselves in Japan with no clear plan for their future. If you just want a decent education, but don't have the money for it, there are other options than Japan and other scholarships too. Consider more than one option.
-When you decided that this scholarship is what you need, think about your strengths and weaknesses. English skill, Japanese skill, skills in your field of study, connections in Japan, ... If you think they are enough or will be enough to receive this scholarship, apply. Don't lie to yourself and apply if you know you are not worth it. Every year people apply for the third time to get this scholarship and they do not get it.
-Thirdly, if you want the scholarship and if you feel you are good enough, you need to prepare. Being well prepared is the key. Do this by preparing yourself and doing things yourself. Write your research proposal yourself and then have it checked by people. That way you can see your mistakes and learn for the future. Don't do it the other way around. If someone else wrote your proposal, you'll find yourself in Japan not being able to live up to the task. Reading about it on the internet and asking questions is not bad, but at some point you'll just have to trust yourself to communicate with the embassy and rely on their information.

@krazyneko: If professors don't reply, it can mean many things, but you can probably also know the reason yourself.:
-You mailed them in English and they do not speak English
-You mailed them in English, but your English proficiency is lower than they regard sufficient to take their program
-The subject line of your e-mail looks like spam
-They didn't like your research proposal and didn't mail you back, because you didn't ask them to do so if they rejected you.
-They think your research proposal is not in their field of study and you didn't ask if they could help you even if they didn't become your supervisor.
-They don't reply to people unless they already obtained the scholarship, or unless they have been accepted into their school. This way they don't have to bother to check everyone and risk having to take care of below level students.

@koushou: It depends on the other participants. If they are all honors students, you risk having a disadvantage. Your grades are relevant, because they are numbers and numbers are easy to compare, but if you needed honors, the application guidelines would have said so. They say: outstanding academic performance. This means both your grades, the level of your academic institution and anything else related.

hi marichan, yes, indeed I am. how about you? did yous sit for the japanese language test? I didnt, I believe there is only one out of five of us sat for the test.

ming2399, to me, the test is difficult, I was expecting something like past year paper (2010), but it's more like 2007-2009 tests.

@sool: yes, I'm also applying for postgraduate in pharmacological field. How about you? In what area do you choose for your postgraduate study? I didn't sit for japanese language test as I didn't have any basic in japanese:sorry: .

@ming2399: to me, the test is quite tough...I'm also expecting the format would be like 2010 paper. but, it wouldn't:(
I did not know what advice should be given as I'm taking the exam for the first time. I just think we must have strong command in English. My English command is just an average 😌

@noys88: same as me. Do you apply for postgraduate too?

@marichan: I am hoping to do a phd in psychology. I also don't have any basic in japanese language, will just learn a few words like 'thank you' if I was selected to attend the interview. ;). I don't put much hope in that though, as I did not do that well in the test, also, the guy that sat for the japanese test will have added advantage. I am 169, are u 170?
