hey there Jmardasil, congrats!
Here we need 3 working days for visa application. Since u've got your visa, who did you state for the Guarantor/Reference for your stay in Japan. Here we are instructed to fill the University. What about yours?
Who else is going to Tohoku Uni? Sendai?

Hi! Everyone! My name is Ray. I have one question about applying through university recommended type.
Do anyone know is it legitimate to applying scholarship through more than one university? Will it be disqualified for double application?
For me, I've got two PhD offer. Both of them tell me to apply for university recommended scholarship. I have no idea what to do. Could anyone help?

hi, ray. If you apply MEXT scholarship through university recommendation in two universtities, it's clearly stated that if you do that, you will be automatically disqualified.
Actually, if you apply, the university will begin to selected people and only a certain number of ppls among the applicants will be recommended to the MEXT. You can maximize your chance of getting the scholarship by applying for two at the same time (though it's not allowed, the two universities themselves wouldn't know that you have applied for two universities), then after the university selection, you should ask your professors if you will be recommended to MEXT by the university, if both universities will recommend you, then you must immediately turn one down as soon as possible, before they both hand your materials to MEXT. If only one university will recommend you, then it's just as good as you have only applied for one university. You know what I mean. The universities wouldn't send the materials of those that they don't recommend to MEXT.
However, that's only my guess. Think about it very hard yourself before you really want to apply the MEXT university recommendation at two universities at the same time.

btw, you could also apply for the MEXT embassy recommendation in the Japanese Consulate General in HK as well. If you succeed, you will be going to Japan next April. There are like 3 quotas for the 2012 batch, I guess.
By the way, it's March now. If you haven't started the application for university recommendation yet (going this Oct), as far as I know, almost all the universities have the deadline of this Oct's entrance before March. Better check immediately.

Actually I have applied for the scholarship through U Tokyo already several months ago.
Until recently, I started to question about the possibility of apply through two universities. And now I know it is not possible. Therefore, what I must do now is to turn down the other offer immediately, so as to let the university to choose other applicants asap.

I think Tokyo U has a much higher chance than Keio for university recommendation. Anyway, good luck!
I asked the same thing but have not been permitted. Normally, they would only buy your ticket from your country of origin.
I had another email now
They accepted my request and sent me the final acceptance letter
But they're still confused regarding my visa processing
Btw, why the letter states that my scholarship is for 2 years?
The professor said that there will be 1 year for language and 2 for MSc?
I'm still waiting for his reply...
hello everyone, i'm a newbie here..I've known about this scholarship few days ago..and everyone here has known about it and for such a long time..thanks a lot for sharing your experience..it's really worth it..anyway, I wanted to pursue my study in life sciences under postgraduate study..of course, this is the 1st time I'm applying for it..i just want to ask, is there any guidelines how to write the research proposal? is there any minimum or maximum length for it? is there any format on how we should write it? thanks for your kind attention =)

I've just signed the pledge and submitted my 2 copies of passport for the Japanese Embassy in my country. They didn't tell me when they would contact me for a visa but I guess that it'll be soon.
@FiFo: As far as I know, our status when we come to Japan and receive the MEXT scholarship is RESSEARCH STUDENTs, and MEXT sholarship is given in 2 years for a RESEARCH STUDENT. If we want to gain a degree that means we have to take the entrance examination to a Master (or PhD) program. After you pass that exam then your status will change to be a MASTER (or PHD) student and the scholarship will be automatically extended untill we finish the Master (or PhD) program. So, don't worry.

Since you will begin your language study first, you enter the university as a research student. And the scholarship for research student is 2 years for maximum. After you enter the master or phD study, they will change the period of the scholarship from the research student to master or phD student which is normally 2 years for master and 3 years for phD.

Hope that I can pursue this 6 years plan...
1 year of language study + 2 year of MSc + 3 years of Phd. That's pretty tough, man.
Hope we can all get along well in this whole new country of Japan.
Well, as I said before, I'm planning to spend my life working as a researcher
I'm not thinking about those years as (years of studying)
I'm thinking about it as a job:
1- Getting salary
2- Building a CV and reputation as a researcher
3- Creating much needed connections that I can utilize after graduation
However, my Plan B would be working as a lecturer...
