The United States of America

see the United States as somewhat corrupt world police. They'll at times go after countries that have nuclear ambitions, they'll at times create false charges to invade a country, and they'll occasionally attempt to prevent true injustices.

I also see the United States as a powerhouse innovator, providing great rewards to innovators, but providing little support to those less fortunate.

The USSR didn't have the war against the USA. It was the war agaist Nazi. Nowdays they tell you different in schools? Well,.. you can always try self-education, especially if you have the access to the Internet.

You don't genuinely believe that WWII exists in some sort of vacuum, do you? It was a war not against anyone in particular, it was the continuation of the colonial era distribution and re-distribution of resources and power. It started a long long time ago, culminated in the two WW's, resulted in the currently partial unification of Europe and led to America gaining adequate power to assume its position in politics and warfare. Just think about it, why was the European Coal and Steel Community to be the foundation of the EU? What, generally, was required for waging war? The truth is that all players just wanted a bigger share and the US and USSR were forced to become allies on an 'Enemy of my enemy is my friend.' basis for the duration of WWII. The US, if a person, would have been creaming its pants if the Nazis and the USSR would have destroyed each other. Certainly a few years after the war and probably even during it.

In general it was a very good news for Russia. The USSR had too many beggers not only in Eastern Europe but inside the country too. Nowdays Russia works for itself and people are enjoying what they have. The life in modern Russian is completely uncomparable with the life in the USSR. It is simply much much better. Doesn't sound like a loss to me at all. Of course the number of social disasters that took place in millions of families across the Soviet Union after its collapse are very sad casualties that could have been probably escaped but unfortunately normally revolutions happen in less peaceful ways.

The life in Russia may be better, but it is far from good, pretty damn far from good. The urban decay of its giant cities and the degradation of its rural areas, the inability of the country to make use of its vast resources. People might be enjoying what they have when they have it, the problem is that they hardly ever have anything that is in line with the potential of the country.

Sorry but if someone from somewhere for some reason did something to you that doesn't mean all people who live from the Atlantic to the Pacific are the same guy !!
I feel sorry for what happend to you but please there are over 300 millions human beings from different places live in the USA.
You sound like "That guy insulted me,his neighbor is rude !!"

Um, maybe you should take your own advice. In this very thread you claimed that "All americans are victims of the media."

Moreover, I doubt that madamepapillion's comments were based on one single event; Where she lives its very easy to cross the border (many people go down to Seattle to shop), hundreds of thousands of Americans often visit her area, and Canada is inundated with American television programs.

For your sake "A big part of american people"...

It was Japan that pushed America unto England and Europe.
Not Japan only. The success of the USSR in Europe was not something that the US would have wanted to take easily. They had to enter the war in order not to allow Stalin to enjoy the full victory over Nazi.
No way I will ever believe you are a Japanese female, LOL.
Have you ever thought that I am a Japanese female? Jeez... That's LOL.
I might believe you spent time in a Russian gulag being brain washed though ?
I might believe the same about you and your brainwashed propaganda. Are we even? But that is not the point. The point is why American guys always tend to insult a woman if she dares to express her own opinion? It doesn't matter if it is a 20yo Thor or 60yo Uncle, they prefer to spread offtopic attacks instead of simply civilly answering my questions.
Its not clear they would have won.
Your post reminded me the Soviet school history textbooks full of Cold War propaganda. During that time the Soviets told that the US Lend-Lease was not really important, and the oposite side, the US, told that without Lend-Lease the USSR would have never won over Nazi. Both statements are silly and not worthy to comment. The point is that in Russia the cold war propaganda is not an issue anymore, while in the US and some other countries they still speak the same nonsense and speak successfully. The Lend-Lease was an important help for the USSR and without it the Soviets would have lost more millions and the war would have lasted longer. But to say that the USSR would have lost the war without the Lend-Lease is seriously not the thing that an educated person should do nowdays. I just see Russia as a part of Germany. Such an idea could be excusable for someone who doesn't know the history of the country and who never heard about the mentality of the people. To speak and post a 50yo propaganda is not an excuse for an educated internet user. Why don't you try to read something written not in English for a change? You can use www.nigma.ru , that site has an automatic translator, you print "the US help to the USSR during woudl war II" or "Lend-Lease", below you will see a blue line in Cyrillic, it is an automatic translation, click on it and then you have it. You will be surprised what you can find there. Not just so-much-for-"brainwashed propaganda" (as Uncle put it) but a variety of articles written by not-Soviet/Russian historians that I am sure you have never read. Otherwise you would have another opinion on the issue.
Btw, returning to our discussion in the previous thread, since you are not sure if the USSR would have won over Nazi, if the Soviets had lost, the US would have kept fighting Hitler or would have signed a deal with Adolf about how to share the world? That probably explains why the Lend-Lease supplies were never on time and within the promised by the USA numbers during 1941-1942. But they skyrocketed in 1943 when the USA understood who would eventually win the war.
I wonder why cold war style propaganda still exists in the US? In the USSR they did it to prove the rightness of the socialism system over capitalism. In the US they did it because they had an enemy- the Soviets. And now? Why do they keep doing it now? What are the reasons of this insecurity that make them brainwash people? You know, in very early 90s, in Russia, especially in big cities there was deficit of food supply. In 1990 Gorby and Bush-father signed a deal about frozen chicken legs. That stuff, that got the nickname Bush's chick legs (nozhki Busha), was around till 2002 when they found salmonella in chicken meat and banned the import of Bush's chicken legs to Russia. I am more than sure that in a decade or couple later from now the US government will write in textbooks or somewhere something like that: "The success of the Russian economy became possible only thanks to American chicken legs. Because without that food help the Russian population would have starved and died." It could be a funny joke if the US propaganda didn't exist anymore. But it does.
The US, if a person, would have been creaming its pants if the Nazis and the USSR would have destroyed each other.
Wonderfully put. I like it.:D
People might be enjoying what they have when they have it, the problem is that they hardly ever have anything that is in line with the potential of the country.
At least they know how to enjoy the life.

Let's talk You wrote: Not Japan only. The success of the USSR in Europe was not something that the US would have wanted to take easily. They had to enter the war in order not to allow Stalin to enjoy the full victory over Nazi.

Japan attacked Pearl Habour the 8th December 1942!!

And J.Stalin was an ally from the America and Great Britain in those war days. There are many pictures of those three sittng together with smiling faces.
Mayby Stalin wasn't the most reliable ally but still they won the War in Europe ... together.
The emperor Hirohito stopped the war by handing over his country and his army over to the U.S.A.

By the way, although I really dislike communism, I do like the Russian people in general. And also when you read the history of their country then one can only feel deeply sorry for all those poor men, women and children. I am glad that things are slowly going better in Russia.
But I am also glad for the people in Japan that the Russians didn't take the northern part of Japan.

Japan attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941.

We do have something of a third political party now -- the Tea Party. They want to take us back to the 19th Century. The Republican Party is trying to absorb them, and the result is a shift to the far right by the Republicans.

The most worrisome trend here is that, due to the economy, some of these fruitloops will likely be elected to Congress. They're not even rational. They're promising tax cuts while at the same time promising to reduce government debt.

Hezam, you should hope that these characters don't get elected. They will out-Bush Bush, so far as the Middle East is concerned. Some of them want to invade Iran now.

I'm getting worried about our future here.

I'm not too sure whether your fears are justified. First; most of the Tea Party's candidates won't win. Christine O'Donnell, Carl Paladino, and Linda McMahon are all unlikely to win. Sharon Angle might over Harry Reid, but I think he'll pull it out in the end.

Another point is that the Tea Party is a very heterogenous movement and actually taps into deep isolationist streak to it. Rand Paul is a good example of that. I don't think the Tea Party will make the Republicans MORE inclined to use action, its more likely to keep it at the same level or reduce it significantly.

OH nooo ! not Tea Party...it's the worst of them.
Tea Party is racist and extremest,We don't need another nightmare.

The Tea Party is throwing around so much money this election -- where are their contributions coming from?

Miller, the Tea Party/Republican candidate for Alaska senator, has a real chance of winning. He wants to repeal the new health care bill, and also says that Social Security, Medicare, and unemployment benefits are all unconstitutional. The US will look very different if these people get in power.

Japan did it a year earlier. The long and hard 2.5 years for Europe passed between Peal Harbor and the Battle of Normandy. So it doesn't look like that Japan pushed the US to Normandy. Actually it doesn't look like that at all. The events in Europe did it.
Mayby Stalin wasn't the most reliable ally
Theye were no true love between all of them. The attitude to Roosevelt in the Soviet propaganda was slightly better than to Churchill. The last one was associated with the Entente and therefore was a priori seen as an unfriendly guy.
I am glad that things are slowly going better in Russia.
"Slowly" is not a really right word in my opinion. If you were on the USSR in 1989 and then visited the same country 20 years later in 2009, you wouldn't recognize the place. The changes are revolutionary, sometimes they were probably too radical. Anyway, I always think with the irony about the Japanese battle with their bubble 20yo economy crisis with still no serious results. That is what is "slowly."
the Russians didn't take the northern part of Japan.
In fact they did. The Soviets took four Northen islands of Japan (Iturup, Kunashir, Shikotan and Khabomai Rocks). It was one of the condition of entering the USSR into the Pacific war.

let's talk Sorry about writing the wrong year, of course Pearl Harbor was attacked in 1941.
I was 14 years old and I remember it all quite well.
And of course Japan didn't literally push the U.S.A. into WWII. But because Japan attacked Pearl Harbor
it made America enter WWII. America gave this terrible war two names: WWII played in Europe and the Pacific War played in Asia. But of course also the Pacific war was a part of WWII.

Sure, Russia is a big country and is growing fast in some ways. Alas I have never been in Russia, but I believe you that the country has changed a lot.
Alas there has been a difference between east and west Europe, so now we have to grow slowly towards each other and that take time.
East and west Germany are united again but it was not easy for either side.
Russia was and is a European country.

I am saddened by the latest development between Japan and Russia and in East Asia in general. We should remember that ordinary people have nothing to do with politics. Many Russians like Japan and this should stay so.

It seems like Bush's party is back again !
And now the american government is looking at Yemen.
A new fake story like Iraq case in a another and different people But a different scenario.

Yet,they didn't get the lessons.

US arms manufacturers and sellers are doing well. That may be the extent of the good news.

Well, maybe not. Obama's hands have been tied by the conservatives, out of fear that they might use his "weakness" in foreign policy against his party in this election. To some US conservatives, "weakness" means any policy other than carpet-bombing.

Maybe now we'll see Obama be a bit bolder in his foreign policy, and try some wiser approaches.

Although, the foreign policy will remain as it's whoever win the election,It's meaningless and worthless.

By the way,I don't understand this election,Is it like the past one when Obama won or different ?

The president stands for election every four years, with a two-term limit. In other words, no one can be elected president more than twice. The office of president will be up for election again in November 2012; Obama will probably run for re-election.

In Congress (our legislative branch), representatives stand for election every two years, and senators every six years (with no term limits).

This 2010 election, all representatives' and some senators' offices are at stake, as well as various state and local offices. It looks as if the Republicans will gain control of the House of Representatives, and the Democrats will retain control of the Senate.

For me they look the same. No changes.

I think with so many domestic issues at home, the people are really REALLY not interested in another Iraq. Most Americans acknowledge Iraq was a way messier and protracted campaign than necessary.

The unemployment rate is around ten percent if I'm not mistaken which is high for a 1st world nation. The currency is falling and the recovery from the recession has been slow and painful.

I don't know enough to say whether Obama's platforms we working and he just needed more time, or if he failed, but even if support sways in favor of the Republicans I think people will have pretty much the same expectations of them that had for Obama, only stronger, and that's the need for change.

Or maybe I'm just being optimistic and this is yet another stepping stone to the NWO orchestrated perfectly by the Illuminati and they're just going to basically blank and stupify the media even further and start another war, on another front, in another country in the middle east. That would really suck.

??? Eh? A new war?

yes a new war, they really dont care about their peoples actualy, they just keep digging a huge hole to burries america to the ground. Have u read catabolic theory about civilization fall? in that terms, civilization will fall according to high maintenance plus waste production are larger then capital production, in this terms, now, the US empire, the leading empire that lead the world since 1945 according to Alvin TOfler (read : third wave) are about to colapse.

And when this titanic sink, all the super-elite will be hop to their savety boat. Move their capital to china maybe? or Taiwan? shortly to another healthy ship, there are parasite biting US system, yet many of the peoples dont realize it, being hypnotize by the media. While those who sink with the boat is the american citizen, who pay taxes, take order, and forcely recruit to battle a wrong inhuman war at Babylon and Khurasan, and they loose the war (but not totaly, those who sell weapon will got a large portion of capital margine).

I dont know, what do u think Lets talk?

yet many of the peoples dont realize it, being hypnotize by the media.
Some people believe that one of the reason of the collapse of the USSR was the high level of people's eduction (for now it's still one of the highest in the world, especially in tertiary education). The more people are eduacted, the less easy to tell them lies. The point is that many Americans don't make any efforts to be educated. They all have computers and the Internet but the don't use them for self-education. Maybe it's their choice to live being uninformed. Or it's some kind of masochism that I cannot understand.

I used to think like that, but i found things that make me change my mind. National system construct culture, this culture can be good or bad but the effect of it toward every person that live under that system is depend on the individual. I do meet a fair well inform person from US that make me change my mind about things, i lay my hope on this kind of personality.

Like u said and i very agree on your statement, now education are almost free, almost, man dont need attending to university to be able understand about things, if they dont have enough money to buy book, they can read free essay or free ebook from the internet. And community works thousand time more effective on educating peoples then any university that stand. Therefor if the individual appear to be ignorance, have an eye but cant see, they got ear but they wont listen, they get hearth but they fail to symphaty, the only one is to blame is that person.

as one english pharse said

"ignorance is a bliss"

but the truth are otherwise

"there are no wealth like knowledge and no poverty like ignorance"

:)

Wow ... this went down hill fast.

I can admit OPENLY that my country is flawed... can you? Can you do it openly in the streets and not worry about reprisal?

Hazem do you denounce your countries military members as you say we should denounce ours? Or is your country that much better? Are you really that self righeous and ignorant?

Personally I wish we could pull out of all our conflicts we are involved in, cut all our aid to countries that don't "play nice" with us, deal with internal issues, and let the rest of you just fight amongst your selves. We could cut our military expenses in half, get rid of our national debt, create more internal jobs, secure our border, etc etc... trust me we can figure out how to make energy without your oil.

Oh wait I forgot I am the baby killer, evil American, gun toteing, (enter your description of Americans here)...... bastard right? So what do I know... I don't read the Christian Monitor.
