Hello,

If possible, please, kindly help me with a difference in the following sentences:

もっと にほんごを べんきょうする ほうが いい
もっと にほんごを べんきょうするべき です。

Maybe, both sentences means You should study Japanese more. But unfortunately, I am little bit unclear, if there are any subtle differences.

Another difficulty is with negative expressions. Would it be correct to say You should not call him using ~ほうが いい and ~べき as follows:

かれに でんわしない ほうが いい。
かれに でんわしないべき です。

Thank you very much!

ほうがいい : would better ~
べき : should

ほうがいい is merely a suggestion/opinion while べき is much stronger.

undrentideさん、

Thank you very much for, as always, kind and perfect help.

かれにでんわするべきではありません is correct. You can also use でんわしてはいけません for "shouldn't".

Toritoribeさん、

Thank you very much for your kind and, as always, perfect and helpful explanations. :sorry:
